Top game and a must for PS3 owners...IMO.
I already have it on order for about this price which was the best at the time, I believe this price is slightly better so have some heat.
#2
Already own this game and it is fantastic.
Great price heat added

Finished it twice. Don't believe the hype. The game is different and challenging but only because it lacks checkpoints and has some very cheap enemies. If the game had checkpoints even just before boss battles, it would be a complete joke.

It's an alright game and if you're after an action orientated RPG this is likely you're only option. I'd give it a 7/10. How this won Gamespot's Game of the Year award over Uncharted 2 however, is beyond me.

P.S. When you die you can just quit game and it saves before you died.
#4
I disagree about checkpoints before boss battles making it a joke.
Most of the levels do have shortcuts (that you open up or already exist) so the boss battle is within minutes of your starting position.

I already own the US edition. Is it worth changing it to the EU version? Will there by any difference I wonder?

Right here goes,
1. the servers will be UK/EU ones so you won't be playing against other players which have the US version.
2. The artbook & strategy guide are now hardbacked, the latter is different that the US deluxe edition
3. There will be another trophy set. The same trophies but another set so you could in, in theory, get 3 platinums for the same game (1 for US, 1 for Asia and now 1 for UK).
4. Your save file won't work with the UK version.

As a footnote, I have sold my standard US version and ordered this, basically for the goodies.
#7
Thanks for that. I am tempted to do the same. The game is fantastic.

I'm looking forward to getting another platinum for the same game...how sad
Also note that this Tesco code can only be used once, I've just tried to order and it was rejected (I had already used the code for a previous order).

Just set up another Tesco account and it should be fine.

What a muppet, I didn't think of that (tired, up all night playing Bad Company 2).
Just ordered, thanks.

Now I just need to remember to cancel my Hut order at some point, when I know everything is cool with this order (quidco etc...)
#11
I had preordered the game for 31.99 from jackofallgames.co.uk. Does anyone know how to cancel my order with them? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Also, amazing game. I just my American version just so I could buy this one.

It's not sad. I understand your motivations. Besides, with the EU version, you will have a new set of human opponents.

I only played one character class and there are quite a few so oodles of replay value, perhaps a female character next time so I can wear that shiny outfit :w00t:

She's...beautiful. Lol. I went with a female magician. Magic class is easiest?
#15
Yippee, quidco has just tracked....£2.36, so £27.22 all in.

Two weeks on friday and I can't wait, also Tesco Entertainment were really quick delivering my last order.
#16
the image you attached is the black phantom edition, but it doesn't say which version it is on the tesco entertainment page. Anyone know which version it is?
thanks

edit -- no matter, ordered and heat added anyway :P

Is this game a similar sort of thing to Oblivion then? I didn't really like that but I'm looking for a new game - I'm not sure Demons Souls is what I'm after.
1 Like #18
Demon's souls isn't really like Oblivion, sure you can level up your character, use other weapons / spells etc..
But the levels are linear, you can pick which world you want to do (no strictly true but to keep this short).
It is more about combat and less about the RPG aspects such as chatting to characters, asking questions etc.. both of these are very minimal in DSouls.

If you want to know more then you could download FirstPlay episode 009 for 99p (plus a free mini worth £3.99) or you can look on youtube for numerous reviews & stuff (gamespot is a good one).

Cheers
#20
A picture is now showing on the Tesco site, clearly Black Phantom Edition albeit badly cropped.
No other details though
#21
I'm tempted to buy a second copy of this game, having the Asian version already.
I think i will hold off for now though, although i would love all of the extras that come with it, as i still have not finished my other copy.

H+R added.

I recently played the US version but I can't bloody do it lol, call me a noob but I realllly can't do it, everything just flipping owns me!

Got to second world and some normal enemies fireball me and I die, can't fight them back as I do not have a ranged attack yet plus I lost 8000 souls on the first world as I thought I was supposed to go on ahead past a big dragon into these 2 guys with blue eyes that just killed me instantly...I then found out I should be going to the next world and returning to the first later...

Still can't do it! lol, anyone know if this game would have a difficulty setting compared to the other versions because I love the combat but I can't take it anymore, I spent about 15 - 17 hours on the game and didn't really get very far, killed first boss, no more lol. Half of that time I was trying to get back to my corpse to get my souls back without getting annoyed but I always got annoyed because I always died lol!

I did want to keep giving it a chance but when a game becomes stressful and unfun is when I call it quits! as much as I didn't want to I did and played other games, really wish it had a difficulty setting for crap players like me lol
#24
Try investing in a guide, it is a hard game, but with the right guidance I'm sure you will be able to learn how to beat it!

I had lots of trouble at the start too (US version), but I stuck with it and have beaten it twice, although need to beat it a couple more times for the trophies :)

It is a tough game. The only advice i can give really is stick with it - it has a very steep learning curve.

I have had about 40 hours on it so far and done 10 bosses.

I did strugle at first but i soon got the hang of it. When i got the option to level up my character i kept going into world 1 - 1 to do a bit of soul farming. I killed the Red Eyed Knight for 2000 souls and the Blue Eyes Knight. That way i could gain a few levels to make it slightly easier.

There is not really much advice i can give. There are plenty of YouTube videos about with people going through the levels and defeating the bosses you could try watching.

These are just some of the things i did when i was struggling, im sure there is more tips to be found online.

Good luck, you will need it with this game.

Rob.

liltman if you are struggling I have the following advice:
1) Use the wiki guide at http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/ These guys that run the website also have written the UK strategy guide
2) Pick a character that has a ranged attack. Perhaps the Royale (soul arrow spell) or Hunter (Bow). If not then get a ranged weapon.
3) Divide & conquer is the way to win at this game. Don't take on more than one enemy at a time, lure them out.
4) Spend souls when you can. I assume you are a fairly low level so, perhaps, those 8000 souls should have been spent to level up your character even if it means going back to the nexus before completing the level.
5) Avoid using the Stone of Ephemeral Eyes if you can. If you die then the world gets harder. I completed this game nearly always in soul form and didn't use assistance of any other player and never used the eyes (until later in new game+ when I wanted to darken a world, but thats another story). But I guess do whatever works for you.

I'm a fairly average gamer and I've spent 140 hours on the US version and completed it 4 times, gaining the Platinum so keep at it and it does get easier as you level up (& the enemies don't!).

Oh and no the UK release won't be easier.

Just my two cents and there are many ways to play (& win) at this game.
#27
Thanks guys, I may give it another chance one day when I have nothing else to play, for now I really got sick of it. I have used the wiki too, even started again as a hunter...then died on the first boss (didn't die on the first boss on the first char I made lol) so I turned it off after that and never went back to it!

The thing I got sick of was farming souls again and again to make up for what I lost, had in the back of my head all the time "if only I didn't lose those 8000 souls I could of levelled my character up and could of found it a bit easier).

Just talking about it does make me want to try again mind, so one day I may try again because the combat was soooo much fun! and if levelling up but the enemies do not then I guess it should be ok if I just spend a lot of time grinding!

Cheers everyone.
#28
Perhaps try again as a Royale but they are more geared towards magic than combat so it depends on how you wish to attack your foe, ie at a distance OR up close & personal. The royale is (initially at least) the former.
I think it is important to note that farming isn't necessary to win and I only farmed on a later level so I could use a particular weapon/armour. Plus you can gain souls from using certain objects, see http://demonssouls.wikidot.com/consumables#toc8 Don't use the boss' stones!
The only level I would ever grind/farm on is 4-2 as it netted quite a lot of souls and right at the start of the level, plus using the correct equipment speeds the process up and it isn't really the chore that people make it out to be, those people are doing it too early in the game and netting too small amount resulting in a long drawn out process.

Plus it is important to upgrade your armour & weapons, oh and keep it repaired although it doesn't break that easily.

"at times unforgiving"

More like 'always unforgiving' :p

I've emailed Tesco to see if this is for the BPE, it's not worth it if it's not.

I've just preordered this, as well, despite owning the US version.
This is the only game I am planning on doing this for.
Hope it arrives by release day.

@ Ashcroft:
Dude - it better be - your post almost gave me a heart attack as soon as I read it!

lol i notice you had to resort to the quit mode. Also there are tons of action orientated rpg's.

None of the bosses are cheap, they fight hard but fair and once you figure them out they are cake. If you're talking cheap, you must mean Lost Planet 2.

This game towers over everything else released this gen. The reason for lack of checkpoints is a counterbalance against co-op and imo it adds a huge adrenaline rush of the risk reward element that is missing from a LOT of games these days. This game will not hold your hand but if you have patience and a little dexterity you will be rewarded and I guarantee it will be the most satisfying thing you have played this year.

Already platted this, definitely buying it again.

Maybe true but on my first char (soldier) on the 2nd world I got wiped out instantly by the dudes that fireball you and I had no way to fight back. The magic trainer would not teach me any ranged magic fighting skills and my bow was too slow to fight them. By the time I fired once 2 fireballs hit me lol

You wouldn't have that problem with the fireball guys if you were a Royale with the soul arrow. Just a thought and I will shut up now
Oh and regards to the quitting thing mentioned earlier, never did that because I was afraid of corrupting my savefile.
