Add 50 quid for a Heos speaker which is alternative to Sonos Play 1.
Could be cheeky like me and get the two even cheaper with a price match. However, I am crediting this retailer with the deal as it is hundreds cheaper than rivals.

I love that rear. It excites the geek in me. But so much has changed since my days of interest in this stuff. It was good old 5.1 then. If you were really outrageous you could go for 7.1. But what the hell is 'Height 1,2,3 & 4'??

That's a lot of speakers. Almost tempted just to see my wife's face.

Doesn't show the 2x subs either, total of 13 speakers which is pushing the limits of most OHs I would guess!

Not sure what that diagram but it isn't Atmos.
This is Atmos:

The OCD in me would get very upset that the left and right speaker posts are the wrong way around!

They're not the wrong way round in relation to where the speakers would be

bloomin' eck man. This is nuts. So about 12-13 years ago when this stuff was getting cool, i spent a truckload on an amazing 5.1 set up. Great DVD player (pre-bluray) awesome marantz amp. Then we had our first kid...then 2 more. And we've pretty much never used it. Ever.

Can you even watch anything in 11.2?!?

That is a good question. All Blu Ray players can do Atmos. As to how many films are liek that, not many. Sky will soon do Atmos. BT already or with their sports. I think I read something about Amazon.

In any case, there is a thing called Neural mode that tries to guess those channels. Reportedly quite good.

There are many things missing from my old amp that will benefit me. The 11.2 channels were the ultimate, that's all.

I would use these that I have not got on current one:
3 HDMI outs. (I have to keep swopping wires for projector and TV.)
HDMI pass through in standby mode. (No need to switch on receiver when watching talky stuff.)
Many more HDMI inputs.
11 channels and 2 subs, current one only does 7 and one sub.
Airplay, Spotify, internet radio, etc. built on. (Old one has no internet capability.)
My AV receiver is hidden behind sofa, so I can now control it and other equipment without doing a billy elliot pose to make remote work (using the control app).
HEOS - basically, Denon's version of Sonos. Potentially better sound, although the user experience ain't as good....yet.
Atmos, etc. Current one onyl does DTs-HD and Dolby True HD.
So for me personally, I am not just paying for more amplification channels.
