Around £20 cheaper than most of the usual places (Richer Sounds, SSAV etc) and with free delivery. Excellent amp, had i not already upgraded a few months ago i'd definitely be looking at this one.

The blurb - "The new Denon AVR-1911 is an AV Receiver with HDMI version 1.4a that can be connected to TVs and other devices that support 3D video such as Blu-Ray Players, game consoles, and set-top boxes.
This receiver supports not only Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio and other HD Audio formats but also Dolby Pro Logic IIz for enhanced vertical and horizontal spatial performance at the front, the essence of 3D acoustics complementing the excitement of 3D video.

The AVR-1911 comes with numerous other features such as 1080p up-conversion to give you a sharp, high-definition picture from DVD and other standard video sources and a Glow-key remote control unit that is easy to use in the dark, to maximise your home theatre experience."

wow amazing price for a top den non amp
#2
cool deal

HDMI version 1.4a is nice to see

Fixed that for you.

Now this is a top Denon AVR. ;)

If there's no THX Ultra II, it can't be the top of the pile. :p

I'd also argue the 1911 is a mid-level amp, it far outstrips the 13 and 16s which are Denon's entry level receivers. This is merely down in price because of the new range that'll likely be with us soon.

LOL technically that's an AV Amp, not an AVR ;).

Also, technically anything starting with a AVR-1 is entry level according to Denon.....but that is just arguing semantics I suppose :p

Fair point X)

It is interesting to see how they've categorised the A1 range though. Where do you place an AVR/power amp in the market.
#7
Personally I tend to use RRP as a rough guide, about £500 and under is entry level, around £1k is mid-range, with high end stuff being reference stuff like the Denon you listed, the Pioneer Susano etc.

Although I was only pulling jeeves leg tbh ;-)
#8
lol , I meant top player not top of the range, as for your link I'd defo buy that at £269!!

Will richersounds price match?

So long as PT have stock, yes. The guys at my local RS actually monitor this site for deals.

Is this a worthy upgrade from an Onkyo 607?

I have a broken ONK606 (works most of the time, dodgy HDMI daughterboard) which I have just been told is still in warranty, hence has thrown out my plans to upgrade.

However, they have also said that a repair is BER so they are replacing it with an Onkyo 607 FOC.

Is it worth me sticking the unopened 607 on Ebay or similar and buying this one to upgrade? I'm happy at the high end of the 'consumer' bracket by the way. I never really faulted my Onk, just that it happened to break down...

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. You should stay away from threads on all AV offers.

Denon are one of the largest builders of AV equipment in the world and regularly win whathifi (among others) awards for their kit (at the lower end of the price scale). I'll be the first to admit they are no Roksan, but as you clearly haven't heard both systems side by side (in which case I'd bow to your superior knowledge), I say again; you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Denon make quality equipment (for the price), this is a hot deal. This was awarded 4 stars in the £400 and above price range by What Hifi category, so for this price it's a steal.

Pair this beauty up with some decent speakers (like the Q Accoustics 2000 series - if your budget can handle it) and you've got yourself a quality set up.

what hifi are the most biased bunch of reviewers on this planet. How can they justify spending £80 on a hdmi cable for example.
