I believe rizla is referring to the DM38 being unable to play FLAC files stored on USB media attached to the USB port.

FLAC gives you CD quality if you rip from CD, it is also the hi-res format of choice for downloads which I hope will become more common in the coming years. FLAC is the future (for a bit anyway) and should be standard on something like this.
