Good price for a fantastic band...Especially live.

I own most DM SACD, and the sound quality is amazing, and really is one of the very very few reasons for wanting to own a SACD player, brilliant sound, sadly didnt take off....the usual failed Sony format, UMD Movies, SACD...and Blu-rays future is unstable.

For those that don't own a SACD player, there are two layers on disc 1, it will play the album as standard on normal cd players on the first layer, hence why its hybrid.

Also disc 2 has the album in DTS and standard 5.1, which will play in surround on standard dvd players hooked up relevantly to a home cinema system (however the quality is poor compared to wonders of the seperately feeding analogue outputs to each of the channels for SACD sound)

Thanks gone for this.

One of those albums where the songs are familiar and catchy but, didnt get round to buying the album.

andywegdge - where do you compare prices for CD's?

Jumping in here, I use find-cd.co.uk there is also find-dvd.co.uk however they dont always list correct prices or show companies as no stock when there is, its a good start though for price checking for sure.

Same here, I have all the DM SACD's except Construction Time Again (and 101). Unfortunately my Denon has decided it no longer plays SACD layers so I'm stuck with DTS which is thankfully a high bitrate and sounds very good. Would love to see them perform live again, saw them at the O2 Wireless festival down in London and they were amazing...

Same here, I was at that O2 gig too....my Samsung SACD/DVD-A plays them fine all except one, for some weird reason, don't know if its a flaw in mastering or a faulty SACD, it will only play the CD layer of Violator not the SACD layer. Do you remember if you had any problems with that SACD at all?

Shame that there are not many SACD releases now, and DVD-A all but seems defunct, along with manufacturing of SACD players or hybrid SACD/DVD-A players.

I did have problems with one of them, took a few attempts to get it to read. I'm almost convinced it might have been Violator as it seriously annoyed me at the time.

Really need to get my player serviced though as it plays DVDA fine, but discs such as DSOTM, War of the Worlds and Downward Spiral can no longer be heard in 5.1 glory.

Dread to think what a Denon 2900 costs to repair though.

I used to have an old Denon 1400 http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo.cfm/Product_ID/1589 and to be honest, whilst it played SACD fine during the time I had it, I got tired of the second delay between layer changes on DVDs, found it to be very overrated for a budget Denon unit, ended up getting (and still have) the Samsung HD-950 instead, and besides that Violator disc, haven't had any problem with it (although it no longer is used for DVD playback, as I have a far better upscaler in the Toshiba XE-500)

With it increasingly becoming more difficult to find new SACD/DVD-A players out there, repair may be the best option, although it is strange it will play DVD-A but not SACD, does the unit struggle with DVD playback between disk layers?

Roll on the gig in May next year!

No problem with disc layers, always been seamless thanks to the 8mb buffer (which was absolutely huge at the time).
Unfortunately it appears to be a known fault with the unit, I just can't get a quote without paying to send it away.

My KEF subwoofer also died (14 months ago!) due to a known fault, but I can't really afford to get these expensive problems sorted out. Wish I could still afford to spend £500 on a DVD player and £600 on speakers - living at home had its benefits :-D

The old Denon 1400 only had a very small buffer 2mb, and was awful, yet again it was a budget unit, but still in my opinion overpriced at £200 from Superfi when I bought it...amusing thing was it was marked up as multiregion online, and they price matched it instore, and then had to multiregionalise it instore at my request.

The guy pulled out a dvd that they were given to upgrade the firmware to make it multiregion and told me to come back in 15 minutes, which I did..to a red faced guy that had killed TWO players in his attempt...

To my dismay though they were the only two players in the shop, so I was sent on a trip from the Wolverhampton store (now defunct) to their other store in B'ham where they found it most amusing that after having a phone call with the guy from the Wolves branch he had used the incorrect DVD for another model in the range :w00t:

Amazing how your once disposable income disappears for the sake of freedom when you get your own place!

I'm not sure I agree with the Bluray future unstable bit. Apparently the take up is quicker than when DVD was introduced (according to an article published a few days back) and the market share is between 5-10% of the DVD/Bluray market. Considering the price premium over DVDs this isn't bad and that premium has come down noticably in the recent months.
Of course I am biased because I am a proud PS3 owner.

Just my two cents and I don't especially wish to start some childish format war.

lots of ppl stuck in the 80's here
i used to love em til i seen them live...shattered the dream for me
don't buy any cds after songs of faith and devotion or before DM 101
all the ones they did after that are trashy 80's rubbish ad ghan's solo cd's song after song about how he's a junkie gimmie a break move on and get over your near fatal death issue

Me and the wife have seen them live 5 times (including the Violator tour @ Wembly Arena quite a few years ago). We've got our 02 tickets for May and can't wait!

Ironically for myself, I don't actually like much of the early 80s Mode stuff, preferring their material from 85/86 onwards when they were less trashy :whistling:

Yet oddly here you are saying basically, just buy Violator and SOFAD..and that Ultra, Exciter and this release are trashy 80s rubbish?!?! Exciter I admit isn't great, but none of their 90s output or PTA I would class as 80s sounding or rubbish!..Only their early 80s stuff is rubbish in my opinion.

Vince Clarke was the best thing to leave Mode.

Cheers OP - heated.

My fave band of all time - not sure that they are underated though, try telling that to the yanks as they are huge over there.
I love all their stuff, early electronica, Violator is awesome, the darker SOFAD and the later albums - all good. Like the solo Gahan stuff too, Hidden House is fantastic......as is Faith Healer off Alan Wilders Recoil album 'Hydrology'

I could go on....and on....

I think he was looking for someone to take the bait. I mean, he can't be serious about what he wrote can he??:w00t: And yes, when VC left DM at that point they became much much more than an 80's "also ran" band and I think as they have matured, so has their music. Though, it is their 1990's stuff that I prefer; but hey, when there is so much trash to sift through in the world of music, then thank gawd for DM;-)

Precisely, far from underrated, huge in America as well as still huge in mainland europe. I think its the whole British press thing and our fickle market that makes for changes in whats in vogue musically.

I think the same with The Cure, huge in America and mainland europe still, yet in the UK you get people surprised they are stll going after being out of the "limelight" for years.

Why knock if you don't like / not a fan ? I'm sure us fans wouldn't like your musical tastes...each to their own etc...back to the point...gr8 find H & R added

personally 101, Violator, Ultra, Music for the Masses, Black Celebration are the 'stand-outs' but ALL have their place loke must 'long' bands each album reflects a certain time, period, influences etc etc etc

Yup...can't wait for their return next year...and U2's even more so...just need Faithless and Massive Attack back too and that'll be a full house...for...ME
#26
They are brilliant band seen them loads of times been a Mode fan since early 80's

Cant wait for new album suppose to have a lot of analogue synths in, which Martin got from Ebay

Shame the UK media press ignore them and people think they are stuck in 80s every album they do is so different from previous ones. They are absolutely brilliant live band, Dave gives 110%

Its a shame that they are far more popular in other countries including States that in there home country.

A Saints fan that also loves DM - perfect!
I have also seen most shows since violator - did you go to Crystal Palace?
I am jealous that you managed to get tickets for the O2 - I tried the morning they came out but they had all gone :( I refuse to pay ebay prices. The wife and I might pop up anyway to see if we can get tickets from a tout on the day...

Great to see DM on HUKD
#28
Hotukdeals meet up in May?! :)

I can't wait!
#29
I was amazed when I got the tickets for the O2 no problem (finger poised on F5)..have you seen the prices they're going for on Play.com?

I'll be there in May too!!! Can't wait!

We went to the Yazoo gig earlier this year which was a cracking night (though the tickets were more expensive than DMs for some reason!!), I have huge admiration for both Vince and Martin. This recent picture warmed the cockles of my heart http://www.erasureinfo.com/news/gfx/vince_martin.jpg :-D

Happy new year to all Mode fans on the forum! Bring on May at the O2! Saw them at the NEC on the Playing the Angel tour, what a great and varied set. Staggering band!

Underated band - whoever posted that clearly knows nothing about music! :)

MIne arrived this morning.

Cracking album well worth £4.99. Shame I didn't get the £1 voucher from Bang before ordering!

OP now needs to find another bargain for us:thumbsup:
