Sounds of the Universe is the upcoming twelfth full-length album by Depeche Mode, to be released internationally on 20 April 2009, and 21 April in the USA. It will be supported by the Tour of the Universe. According to a press release, the band recorded the LP in Santa Barbara and New York using tons of vintage synthesizers and drum machines, which is a good sign considering that the last fifteen years or so of Depeche albums have brought them a bit too close to broody schmaltz-rock. Ben Hillier, the Britrock maestro who produced their last album, 2005's kinda meh Playing the Angel, will be on board again, which is not such a good sign. "Wrong" will be the first single; other album tracks include "Jezebel", "In Chains", and "Hole to Feed"

In Chains
Hole To Feed
Fragile Tension
Little Soul
In Sympathy
Come Back
Miles Away / The Truth Is

Sadly will not be released as a hybrid SACD/CD & DVD set like the other releases were, also Mute have rereleased as of yesterday the back catalogue dual sets without the SACD layer (as the US releases previously were)

So now audiophiles are left with just the album in DTS instead of the quality that was SACD. I strongly urge anyone to contact Mute about why they have dropped support for SACD releases.
