Been posted before and will get the same comments again - pointless gadget pandering to 'germs' phobias. Still, if the price keeps coming down it'll eventually find it's true value (keep an eye on Poundland!).

Got one for Christmas which we use on the kitchen. Works well but the refills are just to expensive.

Ended up modifying the refill pack so I could fill it with cheaper handwash. So far so good

I agree! I was bought one and thought it was pointless but actaully relly like it! It great for the kitchen, especially as I have taps with handles I can push up bit the back of my hand so there's nothing to clean after.

Really. Are they any good? how bout the batteries?

There is a sensor that detects when you put your hand under the dispenser spout (which works well). It then pumps just the right amount of handwash and doesn't seem drip after you have moved your hand away. The pump is only on for a couple of seconds so I think the battery life should be fairly good, Time will tell but not had to change the batteries yet.

I would probably only use one in the kitchen to keep in clean from typical kitchen waste and I wouldn't want to waste my money on buying replacement Dettol refills.

I don't have one but I'm interested. Can you give an idea as to how you modified the unit?

I drilled a 20mm diameter hole in the top of the refill and then used a 20mm closed grommet to seal the hole after filling up the refill with cheaper hand-wash.

If you already have the drill and grommet like I did it is a very quick & cheap mod, otherwise you may have to look at alternative methods. Alternatively speak to an electrician friend you may have as they would have the required equipment.

example parts from screwwfix

Bored of people's comments on how useless the product is, if you don't want it don't buy it! Great deal at £4.99 considering the rrp, and thanks for posting for the people who do like this product! Heat added :-)

I use a children's knife to leaver the top of the soap refill off and then refil it with cheap handwash, re-filled it twice this way now with no problems ;)
I love mine, less waste as it dispenses just the right amount and no mess. great for the children :)
