I have this model, it's been absolutely superb, the best purchase I have made this year, mine cost me £45 and only had a 3 month warranty but this for less money with 12 months is a no brainer.
#2
Does anyone know if you can upgrade the hard disk on these?
#3
Probably the one I sent back. It was **** and so was their service.
#4
They also seem to expect me to pay for the junk to them.

Avoid them at all cost, or it will cost you.
#5
I got a FVRT100 (40GB HDD) some 18 months ago for a similar price. Absolutely no problems.

If you look on Google or try DigitalSpy forums you can find information on changing HDD, adding a USB port and changing colour schemes.

Sounds like you were just unlucky, haven't had any issues so far and have had mine 6 months.

I have a FVRT 200 and it's been fine - except the fan that became noisy - but was easily replaced with one off ebay for less than £5 in kit form.

I've had one of these from new (£120 in Argos about 3 years ago I think) and it's been fantastic. As has been mentioned, check out the forums on Digitalspy, but for all the upgrades available try here.

A couple of points to note:-

1. They don't like to get too hot so it's best not to put them in a stack of other equipment. Mine is in a cabinet with no back, but on it's own shelf and has been fine.

2. DON'T USE THE COMPRESSION - Sorry about the Caps, but really there have been loads of stories of people losing their entire library of recorded programs because of this. What you can do is enable subtitle recording as then you can't compress it anyway.

3. The remote is very poor and at first glance not very user friendly, but if you just think of the button marked cancel as being exit, or back then it all makes a lot more sense.

If you get a good one, then they're great, however, if you don't then apparently MicroDirect don't have the best customer service.

You're right, I had to do the same, made a hell of a difference!

I can accept goods can be faulty but their after sales service is utterly appalling.
#11
I bought mine about a month ago and it has been great - i removed the old video recorder and the freeview box. It also has 2 weeks advanced viewing listings but you have to leave it on overnight for this to download. For the money you can't beat it heat added
#12
what are the connections on this?
#13
Sadly I can't recommend the box or the company. Got one for the parents-in-law and it's been nothing but trouble. MicroDirect customer support is rubbish, you have to pay for returns on warranty claims. They've just had their second replacement die on them, so I've got them the 80gb Techwood one from Tesco, they seem much more reliable and you don't have to deal with the MicroDirect cowboys!
#14
I got the FVRT-100 from Microdirect about 18 months ago for about the same price. I can't comment their customer service, because I've never had to contact them; the machine has been great, never a problem with it.
It is right that the fan is noisy - you wouldn't want it on in your bedroom - but if you upgrade the hard drive and install a smaller 2 1/2" drive, you can dispense with the fan altogether. You can certainly put a 120gb in, but I don't think its possible to go much beyond that.
At this price it's got to be worth a go.

Ive had the DigiFusion FVRT145 for about 4 years now and love it no problems HTH..you can flash the drive so that you can schedule daily or weekly reocuring recordings which isnt an option on the default build, fairly easy all you need is a serial cable and the software is avaliable off the net.
#16
I'd also stay clear of these digifusion refurbs - they seem to break quite easy and you end up with HOLD just showing on the front at some point and a dead box. I decided to go for the Humax 9200 when it was last on offer at Argos around £100 - thats the only decent PVR brand I think - you definitely get what you pay for.
#17
Have to agree with previous posts on product quality and customer service...it's rubbish...I also have had 2 of theseunits die on me and far too much hassle to return...I haven't bought another PVR yet...still pyschologically scarred ;-)

I want a PVR really bad but i cant find a reliable one, are there any deals on a hummy out there or something?

if you can afford go for a Humax
My olds got this one from Argos - you should get a £10 gift card back aswell if you spend over £100 at the minute - trust me once you go for Humax you wont regret it, great pieces of kit. Very reliable and includes a 2yr warranty - record 2 channels at once etc,

but not suitable for a bedroom as noisy

This is what i want it for, so need it to be quiet, i have a 12" domestic fan on all the time anyway so i can bare a little noise, also how easy is it to do these hacks, ive done xboxs, wiis and even one of the first PSPs before dark alex came about so i have some idea of flashing etc.
#25
I purchase 2 of these at the begining of the year as I had 2 of the 200 series fail , then both these failed so had them replaced. The sales man was quite funny in saying " well how long did you expect it to last ??? its a refurb you know they can last a day a week or years" Anyhow go them swapped but one of them doesnt light the green light when is dual recording. But for 40 quid its ok
#26
is there another box like this at about the same sort of price.
#27
I'd strongly advise anyone considering this NOT to touch it, or Microdirect, with a bargepole.

Yes there are those who will tell you that they've had one without any problem, but there's loads more folk, and I'm one of them, who've found it to be the biggest load of rubbish ever bought!! And many of the folk who claim that they're great, seem to spend half their time poking about inside it, replacing bits and adjusting here there and everywhere.

It doesn't matter how cheap an item is it should still do what it says on the box, and in my experience, and plenty of others', IT DOESN'T!!!

And Microdirect? Well they and these units are well matched......................... completely useless!!

There was a Daewoo one at Asda for about £40, but it's not available on the website any more and it's highly unlikely they have any left in store, but might be worth a shot.

Most people didn't rate it very highly as a piece of kit, mind.

Don't bother with these. When they say refurb they really mean used. The two FVRT100s I bought have got faulty tuners, only one of the two works on both units, the cases are scratched and they look like very old units, and well used ones at that. One of the units has a noisy rattly fan. These are not refurbs as I know the term to be, these are second hand rejects. Mine are going back for a refund. Waste of time.

Also, take no notice of the user reviews on the website. The posts are not an open forum of views. I posted a review and guess what... it isn't on the website. So I'd guess that for every one happy buyer there's probably several unahppy ones, you just don't get to here about them.

Both boxes are with the Royal Mail making their happy way back to Microdirect. And I'm looking forward to having my money back.

Microdirect have not won a repeat customer here. They really ought to be honest about the true status of the goods they are selling, and they really shouldn't be selling goods that have been "refurbished" when they clearly haven't even been tested.
