I believe that this is a T810 box, whch I have recently started using (one of the other brand versions). If this is the case I would reccommend it - one comment on the net suggested it is easier to use than a Humax. Also there is software on the net to allow you to flash them to record two channels at the same time (with some negative side effects, including a reduced length and/or slower to load EPG).

Didn't pay much more for mine new from tesco, but that was months ago - may be worth checking - locally they had T816 based boxes recently, but they didn't get as good a write up IIRC & were more expensive due to 160Gb capacity.

It records 2 channels and plays back a 3rd from the HD out of the box.No updates needed.Superb box had mine a yr now.

Thanks, got one of these for my gran n grampas christmas.

Does it have a top up card slot for Setanta?

it doesnt say on the review, so if someone has this box can they tell me

cheers

No card slot.

Brought one of these earlier in the year, was awful, failed within 2 hours of operation. Having said that I have read many positive reviews, and for the price it can always be returned...

It is a great box, I had the fvrt100 before it and have had this one for a few months, no card slot, records 2 chanels whilst watching a previous recording. Only trouble I had was the case was dented on receipt, I didn't mind though as it wasn't visible when under my TV so I kept it.

Got to be worth a ago at this price! I don't think I've seen one for a little as this before. I've bought one ,and I am not that worried as it has a 12 month warranty. If you look on site all reviews pretty positive about it. Good spot voted hot!!

I had one of these for about 6 months and had loads of probelms with it. The on screen guide is really user unfriendly. I swapped it for a Humax which turns out to be the best thing I've ever bought and now about £100 cheaper than it was. Pay the extra it's worth it

No it isn't I'm afraid, these are actually quite an old design, the only similar models by other manufacturers were an old Thomson, and the Inverto. If you get a good one then these are very good for the money, I've had an FVRT145 for about 18 months and it's failed to record less than half a dozen times. Whilst I agree with everybody else that the Humax is the one to go for, it is about 3 times the price!

Check out the forum over on Digitalspy for any info and help that you may require.

Remember (Warning, extreme use of capitals coming up): -
1. DO NOT COMPRESS YOUR RECORDINGS OR YOU MAY LOSE THE ENTIRE LIBRARY!!!!! Recording with subtitles will ensure this doesn't happen by accident.

2. Don't stack it with other equipment (DVD, VCR, Sky box etc) or it is likely to overheat.

Ok so it can be noisy, and the menus look like someone just vomitted on the screen, but I still rate this box very highly, and we wouldn't be without it. If you've got the money, buy a Humax, if not then you could do a lot worse!

I recently bought one of these for a similar price (also a refurb) and the picture is unbelievably soft! I read it was a little soft in reviews but that's an understatement in my opinion!

I bought this for my mum. She has an almost identical 28" Sony CRT to me except that hers is a little newer and mind has an integrated digital tuner while hers doesn't. The integrated tuner on my set is far better than this. Also, it causes havoc with the Sony's widescreen ratio settings and overrides it so it is constantly changing every time you change the channel. Very frustrating for me.

Mine is very noisy, and they haven't changed the problem with the screen format thingy. To add insult to injury, the remote doesn't work because someone left the batteries to leak in it! I'll be on the blower to them Monday morning!

This was the case with the old (12 months+) software, which should have been updated via an over the air download. The problem now is that it may not be sent out as an over the air download again so the thing to do is to download the software update and do it yourself, again, check out Digitalspy forums for any info, there are people on there who know everything about this box!
