Went into a boots today. Sales assistant was telling me that the sale starts officially this wednesday but the sale items are going through the tills at the reduced price. She told me that the following digital cameras were reduced to just £40:

Kodak C533 * Nikon Coolpix L4 * Pentax Optio S55 * Kodak Z700 * Samsung Digimax A50 * Samsung Digimax A400 * Nikon Coolpix 7900 * Minolta X60

There were also the following 35mm cameras reduced in the sale too:

Olympus Mju III 120 £20 * Pentax Espio 115v £10 * Fuji Zoomdate 120 £20 * Fuji Zoomdate 90 £20 * Pentax Espio 140 £20 * Vivitar 3800 SLR £40 * Minolta Zoom 60 £10 * Olympus Zoom 105 £20

These prices are running 'silently' until wednesday but you can buy now and grab a bargain!

Are you sure that they are reduced TO £40.00, or should that be reduced by £40.00?

I ask because looking at the Nikon Coolpix 7900 it is £279.99 on their site
#2
The lady gave me a list of the ones that were reduced and that camera was on it. They we're £40 as I bought the Kodak C533 and it takes it off as a save on the till. I never actually saw her do a Nikon 7900 so I can't be 100% sure but a person before me bought a Nikon L4 and that was £40 too. Might be best to call ahead to be certain
#3
Can anyone tell me which is the best overall digital camera out of those listed?
#4
Google for reviews.
#5
The Nikon L4 is a reasonable price...but if the Nikon 7900 is £40 then I'll join the queue at the door!!!
#6
Woah, does anyone know if the Nikon 7900 is infact £40?
#7
Just managed to find the list the SA gave me and it says the Nikon 7900 is reduced from £89.99 to £40 so where the hell they get £279.99 from for buying online I'll never know! I must admit, I've noticed this before with boots.com, that some instore prices are cheaper than the website
#8
Wow...If that's the case I will pop in my nearest boots tomorrow...Didn't notice anything when I went there this afternoon. £40 for Nikon 7900 seems like a great deal!
#9
Good luck! let me know if you get it for £40 or whether it goes through at £89.99. I reckon they have the wrong price online as it's a hell of a difference from £280 to even £90. See what it says on the shelf. I've got my finger crossed for ya!

nikon 7900 doesnt get really good views on amazon
#12
I wouldn't trust a thing Trusted Reviews writes....but thats my personal opinion

Calling in at my local Boots on the way to work in the morning.... This sounds too good to be true!

Nikon 7900........

Conclusion - Pros
Very compact and pocketable
Beautifully built and all-metal construction
Good resolution and good edge-to-edge consistency
Excellent natural color and exposure - very few blown highlights
Manual (custom) white balance
Fast focus and very responsive performance overall
High performance movie mode with electronic VR
Good ISO 400 performance
Pretty fast operation
Huge range of 'hand-holding' features for the novice
Best Shot Selector
Well thought out controls and excellent handling
Easy to use - once you're familiar with the huge feature set
AF illuminator (though see below)
Great macro performance
Very little purple fringing and well controlled distortion
In-Camera Red-Eye Fix really works
D-Lighting function
Well priced

Conclusion - Cons
Images soft (though they respond well to unsharp masking)
Very poor low light focus - even with the new AF illuminator
Some focus errors at the long end of the zoom even in good light
Low ISO results relatively noisy using default settings
Finest quality JPEG is still quite heavily compressed
Red-eye mode means 6 second shot-to-shot time
Too many button presses to change basic settings - presumably to avoid accidents
No exposure information on-screen
No control over shutter speeds or apertures
Only two aperture settings

Other than Samsung Digimax 401 I am sure all other are the once in Boots.
OP said Digimax 400 which isn't on the list on review website.
#18
sorry i dont understand

I would suggest a phone call first thing to reserve if available as these will be put under the counter for the staff soon as the price is known.

Just looked on boots site and they do have it for 279.99 but then Currys and Dixons have it for just under a ton.

I am intersted in this but am wary either staff will grab em or its too good to be true.
#21
I wouldn't go for another Nikon. They take good pics but takes ages to recycle between shots, escpecially when you're using a flash. Both me and my brother in law have had the same issue with different models.

The Minolta looks appealing to me.
#22
I agree I would never ever buy another nikon aswell as taking forever to recycle between shots, Ive also had soo many internal problems & faults with mine its been back for repair 3 times!
#23
None in Stock at the York Coney Street Branch, or Selby
#24
OOOoooo Now this may be worth a visit on the way home! Wud reallllly fancy a Nikon Coolpix 7900 for £40!!!!! Thats a bargain if its true! People keep posting if they have any luck with this!!!
#25
Tried all my local stores and London Colney. They only stock the nikon s200!:x
#26
No stock around Leeds also :-( Pity would have come in handy for my hols next week.
#27
Anyone confirm and boots stores in Lancashire with stock?
#28
Nothing in norwich... I think they have seen this thread and taken all back to their warehouse...they should bring them back on display on Wednesday :giggle:
#29
Nothing..well not the 7900 for sure...in Warrington.
#30
Just called Nottingham Store.

The cheapest camera they have is £59, and no they don't stock the 7900

Phoned around my local area nothing on display(?) and only Nikon S200 and S6
Said not sure if they were getting any in for Wedensday clearance sale
Good luck to those that find one in stock
#32
Maybe this is one for wednesday morning!
#33
I think the stores just don't carry the stock....the one I went into, the SA certainly had a good look for me....and directed me to another store with a wider stock capacity..they had none either.
banned#34
Just called around several of the large stores and I am finding the same as everyone else when it comes to stock. They have the S6 but no 7900......have to wait until Wednesday to see if they get any in......
#35
The original SA did say that they were mainly old stock they still had so it's gonna be a case of pot luck me thinks. I don't think they will be getting any stock in just for the sale but you never know. Remember, you have to get them to ring it through the till for the £40 price, it is not shown on the shelf.

bobtastic, I don't know which camera they told you was £59 but it may be worth calling them back and asking them to check again through the till.

Yes, I think it's a great deal if you can get hold of one...as always with old stock it just a matter of luck and being in the right place at the right time.
#38
I phone the customer care phone service this morning.
They checked stock on the coolpix 7900 on the main computer, and NO stores have them as showing in stock, but they are available at the warehouses for Web-only sales at the online price.

Ohhhh Wellll
#39
none in doncaster stores..They do have the red canon powershot A430 which is £59.99 if you missed it online....
#40
none in Oxford
