whenever you are buying a TV for a lot of money, always worth getting a 5 year guarantee, my samsung blew after 2 years and it is costing me loads to get it repared
+1father in law's 40" Samsung had his backlight go pop after 2 years - thankfully he bought it on my Costco card .. given a full refund and bought a new one with another 5 year warranty from them last weekend :D

Always like to hear good news! :D Was told that samsung are renowed for this problem, unfortunately I have two TV's the same model so just waiting for other one to go. I would not buy another samsung, the repairer informed me that in the week I took my TV in he had another 13 samsungs to repair with more or less the same problem.

They should have had this sorted years ago and I have informed them of this. Trouble is, you have got to also trust what the repair co. is saying, they could quote anything and you would be none the wiser! 5 year guarantee everytime.

Lots of negatives but nobody has posted a better price!

I have this set and paid slighly more with a 5 year warranty. This is a great price for a brilliant tv, this is probably the best 40" LCD available at the moment and its replacment will cost much more although will be 3D capable.
I reckon this is the best £1000 set for picture quality out there at the moment.
I've done mine all on my own!
Thanks for adding the picture. I still haven't sussed how to do that myself!

Everyone always goes on about screen burn and plasmas but screen burn can happen to lcd also. Depends on what you are doing with it too.

Hi,

I planned to buy a Panasonic plasma and was prepared to risk the screen burn and the other plasma issues. However I pulled out when I read about the acknowledged 'black' issue after 1000 hours use that some Panasonic owners are experiencing (see AV forums or google for Panasonic black issues). Apparently it affects sets from 2008 onwards. Not all users experience the issue but I did not want to risk being one of them having spent a lot of money buying the set.

I will wait a bit longer before making my choice.

Yep, that's one of the issues, which is probably why Panasonic stopped there reoccuring 5 year warranty offer since then but I've heard and read a lot of issues about them, so tend to stay away until I know they've resolved the issues.
Not a patch on the Toshiba 42VX635DB.

I can't believe the difference in the quality of the picture compared to my 4yr old philips plasma. Even on freeview the quality is fab - getting sky HD + on friday though and thats going to be immense.
Remember 46" to 50" may seem like <10% more at +4" .... but is actually 18% more screen area to involve you in

Why expired?
There are still 11 hours to go on the deal.
The free 3yr warranty is on just about every other set on the site but this just gets the standard year.
It doesn't look like to be with 3 year warranties. It just said "Manufacturers Warranty". Anyone knows how long Toshiba's standard warranty is?
Just ordered it just now as my old Daewoo 28" CRT went snap, crackle and pop on Friday night and it was officially time to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century.
Was about to get the LG 42LH3000 but decided for another £100 this was a better bet.
Have been quoted up to 14 days for delivery but I hope its a lot quicker than that!
azzy129;7868958
Seems like a good TV, and a nice size. It's stupid that they won't let you collect, even though you're 2 miles away. It could be because they don't want any face to face customer contact. I would be a bit dubious about retailers/companies like that. I bet their after sales service is non-existant. Once they've got your money, to them you're just a nobody.

I can actually see their office from the bedroom window! I'm sure it used to be Sound And Visions place - now they are crap at aftersales service. Called in numerous times about a problem with my projector screen - said they would send someone to collect it. Explained that I could carry it down as I was 5 minutes walk away but they insisted it was collected. On a weekday, at a time between me leaving and coming home from work. I explained I would be at work so they suggested I leave it with someone nearby who would be in. I suggested I bring it to the shop, which was much closer than my Fathers house, and the courier could collect it from there!

6 years on and I'm still waiting for it to be collected!

Bought this before christmas for 740 and can vouch for quality... the LED of samsung or W5500 are almost the same. not much difference in quality apart from additional features..
the w5500 is £999 on the same site.
I paid over £1200 for this model when it first came out- think thats about 18 months ago- and even at that price it was a good deal at the time. Saved over £300 on Sony RRP. So for £799 thats a real good deal. Can vouch for the picture quality- top class set. heat added.

edit- just checked prices for 46" W5500 for comparison. Good luck getting one for less than £1100.....

I think it means its a 720p resolution TV but it upscales the images by interlacing the image (the 'i' bit ). Basically better than 720p but not as good as 1080p ('p' = pixel).

Not big enough, I WANT BIGGER:w00t:
To be fair, £1700 isn't really that much for such a large LCD TV.

I remember when my parents bought a 32inch Toshiba about 15 years ago - that was about £2000 at the time!
If I paid that much for a TV, I'd want a 10 year warranty...3 isn't enough.
Manufacturers really hold back the technology to make you buy again. Tv's like this top end one nowadays should be coming with Freeview HD (due next month), or Freesat HD (which will have BBC I Player in HD this month ) built in. Why not, because they know there will be a big push for the world cup in HD so we will be buying another box to watch it in HD. What a con!
Sorry I don't really keep up with all the marketing rubbish these companies try to scam people with. As this states 200Hz Picture Processing (refresh rate?), does that mean it is compatible with 3d tv, or is this a fictional specification quite like the dynamic contrast?

For this sort of money I'd definitely look at getting a full 1080p projector for films/games and leaving a smaller TV (32"-40") for standard def. I have a fairly cheap projector (Optoma 65) and honestly would never go for a large TV. Using the projector at 100" for games and Blu Ray is amazing and I still have an old 32" CRT for standard TV broadcasts. I have to admit its not for everyone though (room dimensions being one problem) but its definitely worth looking in to.
tradeingplaces45;7436889
no it was the lg 60ps7000 i was lookinig at as i was after purchaseing it till i saw it it was next to a panasonic and samsung and truth be told they was all linked to a blu ray player (sonys bdp s360)
and the samsung picture was very detailed as with the lg it was no were near as detailed and i messed with all the menu settings on the lg and still could not make it look much better i would not touch this even if it was 600 pound and i got a free stand lol. plus the samsung was 3 inch bigger and much better looking in terms of design (samsung and sony any day would not buy anything else )

Well I can only talk from experience on the LG’s as I own both the 50PS8000 & 60PS8000, as far as I know there is not much difference between them and this model. I can confirm that the picture on both is outstanding, I researched both and read owners threads on AV Forums and a good review on Avforums website (And you tube)

So I cant understand how you seen this set with such a bad Image on Blu ray, it just doesn’t add up.

"The MS300P are designer silver stands suitable for the MS302 Satellite speakers"

Only for teensy speakers.
They have weighted bases so I don't think they'll be wobbly.

Am interested to find out if it can be used with other speakers or whether there is a Mordaunt-Short fitting that only allows their speakers to be used.
They look really wobbly and unstable! Anybody got a pair to comment? However for a mere £15 they look kinda cool and would be good for surround speakers behind the sofa.

Since there are no true LED TVs on the market, what is your point? There will be no LED TVs ever; if the manufacturers are able to sort out the technology, we will have OLED screens hopefully.

My point is the terminology using LED BACKLIT is a con, some people will buy it thinking there buying an LED.We will have OLED TVs, there's a 10inch one if you want to fork out a couple of k.
Probably worth adding to your OP that it comes with a 4 year guarantee too.

Links to a few reviews here http://www.testfreaks.co.uk/tvs/sony-kdl-46x4500/reviews/

Seems the backlight is LED array with local dimming too.
