Mega heat for this, Apparently it doesn't work on Windows 7 though. :(

EDIT: just read the description, made me hopeful. :)

12 mins to late ;) shame about windows 7...bit of a fail really!

DiRT 1 works perfectly fine on Windows 7 with the latest retail patch applied (it removed part of the SecuROM protection that made it incompatible in the first place).
For some idiotic reason this patch was never applied to the Steam version and the retail patch is incompatible as far as I know.
#4
And I thought steam were suppose to be really good at keeping game patches up to date!
#5
Cool, I enjoyed the 2nd DiRT (off steam for around same price I add) so worth a go I guess

I've never had any real issue running this on win 7, still a great game actually ;)

DiRT 1 was a very different game - very much better, at that.

it DOES work on windows 7 (x64 sp1), I've had it a while myself.... sadly no multiplayer servers now, so limited to LAN modes or LAn over services such as Tunngle

Good price for good game. I got a copy of Dirt 2 free with my new graphics card recently and love that..dont know if ready to play Dirt 3 at full price yet or keep with Dirt 2
#11
Yeah I'll chock in and say that it does work in Windows 7, some people have found that it doesn't work with a certain onboard soundcard's control panel running. I personally couldn't get it to work with Fraps running, but disabling that it worked fine.
#12
Hot for the price can't go wrong.

How does steam work, will it I able to play games on a laptop with a poor graphics card?
#14
Hpi_matrix, for your information Steam runs games the same as if you had installed them from a disc, it is effectively an online store and application launcher so it will not enable you to play games with a poor graphics card. The only way to fix that would be to get a better graphics card but laptops are normally impossible to upgrade in this area. I'd recommend building a low end gaming PC for around £200-£300 if money is an issue and you can't play games as old as this on your current system.

Got this a while a go for a similar price in a Steam sale - excellent game although I was dissapointed that the online portion had been shut down. I complained since it was still listed as being multiplayer on the product page back then but they basically just said "it is disabled and we are not re-enabling it - na-na-na-na-na"

So...will this Steam version work with Windows 7?
#16
If it don't work for Windows 7, whats it supposed to work on? XP is ancient and Vista don't count as an operating system.

First Dirt is Best Dirt

Thanks, OP. I would have missed this if you hadn't flagged it, despite me going on Steam every day to play Flatout Ultimate Carnage. I've bought Dirt hoping it doesn't have the sluggish and aggravating menu system of Dirt 2. If it has, oh well, it's only £1.75.

how big is the file? says you need 12gb on somewhere... i have a slow connection so that would take ages...

Joined Steam today and bought Dirt in the hope it would play on Win7 but it does not.

As I paid and downloaded it, I'd like to try it on an XP machine but I'm not downloading 10 gig again, which file do I transfer to my XP machine and will it work without additional downloads?
#27
You can back-up games from within the Steam client. I think if you right click on a game in the library view, there is an option 'back-up game files' or similar. Use that to create a locally installable backup. Transfer this folder to XP machine. Install Steam while you're waiting (most likely needed). Run the setup installer in the backup folder. Done.

Have you looked on google, there are a few fixes around which might help.

I have HP Notebook with XP & 3gb RAM installed - this is the main spec:

Product Name 311c-1020SA
Product Number VT392EA
Microprocessor 1.60 GHz Intel Atom processor N270
Microprocessor Cache 512 MB Level 2 cache
Memory 1024 MB (1 x 1024 MB)
Video Graphics NVIDIA ION LE
Video Memory Up to 319 MB

Anyone know if Dirt 1 will run smoothly with this spec ?? cheers

ps never let Roxio "Back on Track" near your pc - it stole 75gb of my hard drive and said it was full up
had to uninstall it to get memory back !! and I had not even installed it !! Freakin software assholes.

ps ps Saw Dirt 3 running a forestry rally stage on xbox 360's at a rally show yesterday - the graphics were unbelievably awesome !!

Worked straight away on my W7 PC but at £1.75 you can't grumble, esp as you can use your Steam account on more than one PC.

Worked first time for me on W7 64-bit.
