despite poor graphics (good by console standards LMAO) this has a lot more long rally stages than dirt2, something they are bringing back for dirt3 (70% rally focus), so worth a few quid.

Be advised this is not officially supported on Windows 7. According to Steam forums for Dirt, some people have got it working but as usual : your mileage may vary!

It's very easy to get working.... I've got it running fine on Win7 x64 Ultimate Sp1.

1. ya need to get patch 1.21 and 1.22 as its the 1.20 edition on the download, not 1.21 as it implied from the file header. The tricky bit is getting the 1.21 patch, as many links mislabled it as 1.20, but the giveaway is the filesize, 1.20 is 52.9mb but 1.21 is 43.1mb

2. If you have a i7 you have to edit one of the files for 8core support as hyperthreaded cores crash it, to do this simply goto the games install folder, then system folder, copy workerMap4Core.xml and rename and replace workermap8core.xml to fix the bug.

3. run in Vista compatibilty mode, then runs perfectly

Thanks Highway - I'll give it a bash then!

Hmm major bummer, seems codemasters closed the online servers down a few months ago to focus on newer titles... so look like gonna have to play multi on LAN via tunngle/hamachi. Sent a nice letter to direct2drive for not warning of that... since multi is where the game shines.

Is this a steam download or not? If not I'll give it a miss probably.

EDIT: None of their games are. Annoying really as they also had some other games which I wouldn't have minded getting but I cba having games on sites other than steam. Still a hot deal if you don't mind however.

Didn't like Dirt terribly, GRiD I thought was amazing, and Dirt 2 was pretty awesome although I never got round to completing it, but hell, for £1.96 it's definitely worth a buy. Hot!

What spec GPU do you need to run this at 1080P?

I played it happily at 1080p on an older 8800GS graphics card with 384MB RAM. Guess its more GPU than VRAM based. You will need a decent quad core for it though, I found it sluggish on a dual core machine (not unplayable but you could definitely notice the difference on a quad)

The game itself is really good, but the more I look into the specifics of the PC version the less appealing it becomes.

As of Sept 2009 the online servers appear to have been taken down permanently for this title on PC - which also took out the leaderboards.

The retail version shipped with StarForce copy protection, though I don't know what DRM comes with this download version.

1080p Grid with lighting mod makes console owners confused ;)
It looks amazing, has never claimed to be a slow, sensible cornering simulator, and is great fun to play.

For anybody trying this on Win 7 x64 sp1:

dont apply the patches straight off - this gave a CRC error on patch 1.22.

1. Install game
2. Delete Dirt.exe from the installed game
3. Run patch 1.21 (labeled 1.2 on codemasters download site)
4. Run patch 1.22
5. Play game

Not sure about applying the Compatibility layer for Vista on the exe - seems to be running OK without but haven't got too far into it.

Glad this works - as I prefer this to Dirt 2 :)
