West Yorkshire Police have set up an incentive for motorists to deter thieves.

They sell the Thatcham rated 'Disklok' at cost price.

£30 Small (Most cars) - [Halfords £59.99]
£45 Large (Vans etc) - [Halfords £79.99]

I bought mine from the Holbeck station but I believe Morley stock them aswell.
They did only have 6 left (small) unsure how many large.

*Sales are limited to two per person.

Arent the **** police supposed to deter thieves, hope these are more effective than the coppers are...

These are excellent, been around a few years now but still one of the best steering wheel security devices you can buy. One of the few recommended by Thatcham. Will defeat all but the most determined of criminals, one look at it would put most off. Shipyard construction and consequently a fair old weight and not the easiest of things to store in the boot when not in use but worth the inconvenience for the peace of mind. Got mine about six years ago and paid well over £100 at the time, absolute bargain at this price, heat added.

Got to agree with you there but if we don't do our little bit to deter them then we have nobody but ourselves to blame.

most cars now have immobilsers built in, this has been law since 1998 . Pretty pointless if you ask me, unless you keep your car keys seperate from your lock key. Gone are the days when you can use a screw driver to steal a car. However this is a good price if you own an old car. Most cars after 1992 had immobilsers fitted as standard

As it happens I have a good immobiliser (Mazda RX8) and I take your point but there's nothing quite as good as a visual deterent, being lazy by nature most opportunist car thieves just dont want the added hassle this lock presents.....I would be betting on the fact that most would choose to walk away and find an easier steal.

Regardless of how good a cars own in-built security is if this Disklok discourages someone having a go then at the very least it would save the grief and expense of repairing damage caused in a failed attempt.

I didn't know that to be honest, but if i didn't will the average thief on the street?

So it is still a great deterrant in my opinion, and if they have the choice of my car with the disklok on and one without I think they'd probably attempt to go for the one without.

I have one of these and would definately recommend them.

Whilst my car has an immobiliser this is a visible deterrent to someone who would attempt to steal the car.

I bought mine about 5 years ago, about a year in, the first one had a problem with the lock, and Disklok's customer services just asked where I got it from, they had it picked up at their expense via courier, fitted a new lock, and returned it to me, free of charge the next day, even though I had lost one of the 3 keys, if you get one make sure you keep the key code, as you can order spare keys with the number, they are £10 each. I payed £69.99 for mine, you can't even get them wholesale for that price, even from disklok, the police must have done a deal to get them at cost?.(just looked on ebay there is loads of them on there).

I've had one of these in silver for the last few years. Really is the dogs wotsits, though a little bulky and heavy.

I couldn't find them mentioned on the website either but when I added 'West Yorkshire Police' it included their website.

I think it's just West Yorkshire, but the only two I know of are the two stations I mentioned above.

Had one of these about 3 years now, got it from Cleveland Police £25 also got my brother the Autolock (think thats what it was called) again from Cleveland Police £30 last year, excellent deterrent as i have not had a single attempt on my car (touch wood) also as it's Thatcham approved may get a discount on your car insurance.
