Halfords have slashed the price of their display model Garmin Sat Navs. Click and Collect only. Staff instore were not aware as they had reduced the items a couple of days ago, but they are now slashed and still on shelf at a higher price.

Examples, Garmin Drive 40 LM reduced from £100 to £45

Top of the range Drive Luxe 50 LMT reduced from £300 to £129

I opted for the Garmin Drive assist 50 with built in DashCam, full Euro mapping and lifetime updates reduced from £280 to £119.

Staff told me they weren't aware of the current price drops as my model had only just been reduced from £280 to £200 a couple of days ago.

Other models available, just scroll through the 3 pages.

Reserve and collect online to be sure to get one!

yes smart phones have killed this tech

Not really. A dedicated half decent Satnav is way better than using your smartphone - no matter how good your phone is.

Yes, mine came with everything in the original box and staff confirm the receipt is for full warranty.

Just a couple of sticky marks where security tags were.

Upon collection make sure you have been given the window bracket. Halfords tend to 'forget' on display models.

As a generalisation I have to agree with that, although there are some who still prefer their dedicated GPS units.

It doesn't take much to search and find information to show how much Garmin and TomTom have been affected....

http://gpstracklog.com/2015/05/garmin-auto-gps-sales-continue-decline.html

As a family we all used to have standalone GPS devices but now with Smartphones none of us are using anything other than those. Even the software doesn't have to be Sygic or iGo etc anymore . It can be the free Google maps with the map downloaded for offline use. Or even the free Here maps and software.

The exact same rules apply to sat navs so you'll be getting 6 points either way!

True, a dedicated Satnav is better and a good large screen in dash Satnav makes the difference even greater.

Both can be true.

I do find I miss fewer turns with the resolution of my phone than with my Navigo V1. But you can guarantee that the once a month I need to use my phone to navigate somewhere, someone will call me at a critical point. Then there's the problem with my aged phone and charge cables falling out of the micro usb socket, 10 mins later the phones practically dead, OK if you spot it and there's somewhere to stop.

My experience of Garmin are that they are absolute garbage! I honestly wouldn't bother
#34
how is the battery life with these or does it have to be plugged permenantly into the power outlet

What do you recommend then?

Reserved the drive assist with dash cam last night and just collected this morning, no problems with collecting it from team valley Gateshead branch. Cheers op!

Great find OP.

In London all of the 6 models I clicked on were available within 2 miles so there must be a fair bit of stock.

After umming and arring I'm going to stick with Waze on my phone but these are great deals for anyone who wants dedicated satnav.
#38
Ordered. £280 down to £120 with a build in dash cam & unlimited map updates. Great find
#39
Thanks OP, just picked up Drive assist with dashcam. Was brand new unused, even though it was classed as ex-display. Had to ask as there was nothing ex-display on show, they got it out of storeroom. Staff knew nothing about the reduction.

Not so.My brother samsung phone dies after 1 hour with a flat battery, even if the charger is plugged in.
My Garmin runs for 5 hours on its own battery, voice activated, photos of junctions places of interest etc and my cheapo chinese import satnav for my motorcycle is shock proof and waterproof all for £75 !
