Don't agree, its made as a spoof documentary so well suited to the small screen. Great film btw, wonder what any sequel may bring.
#5
Brilliant film and made for the telly (IMHO)
#6
Wasn't expecing much of this, but it turned out to be the best film I've watched in ages, definitely best sci-fi film of the year, although I haven't seen Moon yet...

Oh, and Star Trek is definitely worth a watch too.

Spoof is probably not the right word, and only the first third or so is a documentary. DEFINITELY watch it in the cinema if you can, you'll end up buying the DVD anyway I assure you.
#7
I personally didn't rate this film as it is lacking a proper story, in parts it is amusing though.

pretty good film but people must be mad to pay a tenner for a dvd these days.

I think this just pipped Moon for me. The first third was a docmentary style (spoof-ish?) and not a documentary, at least I hope not!!! Best Mech iv ever seen in a live action film, would kick the **** of any of the transformers.

Good film but i found the main characters accent a little annoying. Where is he from? Holland,SA,New Zealand, Ireland?

Top film, prob the best film of the year so far!

Does it normaly take only 3 months for a film to go from the cinema to DVD/Blu-ray?
#14
got a bit confused by this in the cinema :S

His accent was South African. I think that might have been deliberate as the film is set in South Africa...

Loved this film, I had no idea what the film was about and it didnt end the way i thought it would while watching it, best film of the year for me!

The main character Star Sharlto Copley as Neill Blomkamp was an excellent choice I thought after watching it.

Taken from IMDB:
Star Sharlto Copley had not acted before and had no intention of pursuing an acting career. He stumbled into the leading role as Neill Blomkamp placed him on-camera during the short film.

Another positive here. A strange but hugely enjoyable film. Quite a low budget film. I think the effects were done in canada quite cheaply compared to hollywood effects companies.

I hate to see wasted cake though. That for me was the most disturbing scene in the film.
#23
Hot, cinema to dvd is definitely getting quicker

Will have to get this and star trek as stated earlier in this post (terminator?)
#24
Saw it in cinema, good film but won't be buying for £10. DVDs are dead now IMO

T4 is entertaining, and far better than the negative reviews would suggest. MINOR SPOILER: The ending was strong cheddar topped with parmesan sprinkles, though.

Agreed, any film with special effects needs to be viewed in hi-def.

Dear Mr Echo
Are you sure you watched the film? :whistling:

:-D lol!
Ten/fifteen minutes into watching this I told the wife I'm not impressed, and I'm not sure why it's getting great reviews. But as the film progressed it got good. Then great. Then fantastic!

Haven't voted, here, as I'm not sure a tenner's that hot a deal - there could well be better offers before it's release date. Bear in mind that's still three months off...

great film, but will prob wait for bluray

Loved the movie, waiting for the sequel where the Aliens come back and teach us pesky humans a lesson ! :viking:

Oh and sorry but i have to...

actually parts of the effects were produced by peter jackson's WETA studio.

in fact, if not for Jackson, this film would never have been made, as he felt he owed it to Blomkamp after all the effort he put into trying to get the Halo movie off the ground.

Such a poor film not worth it at all, not going to vote either way though.

ok, i know that there is no such thing as universal praise, as not everyone has the same tastes, but what was so poor about this?

i thought it was a bloody good piece of science fiction film making as it made the unreal seem real.

not to mention it's a bit of a damning social commentary to boot, something which can be said about a lot of good scifi.

i suppose if you went into it expecting another star wars you would be disappointed, but i found it an intelligent and engrossing piece of cinema.

You are correct there, however WETA infact had a very small role in creating the actual effects for the film. Most of the studios that worked on the effects were indeed based in Canada, as described within this article here - http://www.fxguide.com/article561.html

Weta also contributed to the film, initially it was expected that they would be the primary facility due to the relationship with the films producer Peter Jackson. In the end Weta had to take a reduced role due to the scheduling conflicts with the epic James Cameron Avatar.

In the end Weta contributed to the film by working on the shots with the Alien space ship. In the cases where shots required both a background ship and foreground character animation or other visual effects, Weta would pre-comp the ship and provide the completed comp to the relevant facility.

Have to admit this was one of my worst films of the year, infact possibly the second worst film I ever watched, save your self some money and go buy some prawns for real....

I'm with you mate! Went expecting great things and we all sat there stoney faced wondering what all the fuss was about. Maybe I'm just not a layers person.

In fact, I liked GI Joe which probably explains a lot!

Top Top movie best for a long long time....This cost 18 million to make and Avatar 180 million and that looks like a load of monkey poo to me...

Reason why is was so cheap was location south Africa slums do the maths lol.

The main character Star Sharlto Copley as Neill Blomkamp was an excellent choice I thought after watching it.

Sharlto Copley played Wikus Van de Merwe (who was the main character), Neill Blomkamp was the Director.
Stunning film but will wait for Blu-ray.

Lacking a proper story? Of all the accusations which could be leveled against this film, lacking story should be waaaaay down the list.
