Copied this bit from another forum:

Managed to get 2 of these from the kingsbury branch BUT beware guys they AINT on general sale, you need to have printed off the above page and ask for the player. They said there was no stock at first but then after a stern word and letting the guy know i had the head office phone number (and showing them the print out) they said there may be some 'left' in the back. He came out with 3 but i just took the 2. They are being really tight on these units and its probably cos they want them for themselves.

If you don't know what's special then you don't need one. ;)

You can play normal DVDs on them, and you can also play files which you've "compressed" for backup, (or maybe downloaded, not that I condone that behaviour if you do not have the copyright to that material!!) straight from the player without having to convert them to a special DVD format.

They will have probably all gone by now. They only had 5 at mine when I got there at 9:30am. Lidl had them at £19.99 a few months ago. They were all gone by 9:05am at my local store.

You can get DVD players for as little as £20. I think Tesco might have one. Try asking in deal requests.

It's not exactly true that if you don't know what's special about them, then you don't need one ducky :) Not everyone knows about all mobile phone features for example, until they find out what they can do or what other accessories will go with it.

What makes this Aldi DVD player special, is it's many extra features you don't normally have on a general DVD player. fps_kyle has listed them above, as has stevebunce original post.

The bold text above shows the main extras you won't usually find on other low cost DVD players.

I believe the Aldi DVD player also receives great reviews from people who've bought it previously.

Sorry ray... that was a bit harsh to say that. What I really meant was that if you don't use DivX then you probably won't use that feature on the player. Then again, if you've ever downloaded something like a video clip off the internet and played it on the PC you might not know what format it's in. I didn't know about the USB port until I got there... could be useful. They still had these players at about 4PM in the Preston store.

Katherine, I sent you a private message with some deals... £17.92 at ASDA's website and £19.99 at Argos were the cheapest I found. :pirate:

That's okay ducky :) It wasn't a criticism, more of a thought, as I know you meant it in a good way!

In York there are plenty left. however they don't have them on the shelves, you have to ask the Checkout operators for them. Apparently this is common practice for Aldi; I remember having to ask them for the DVD Recoreder they had on sale a few weeks back - none on the shelves, but they had plenty in the store.
#19
Not a very good way to sell stuff eh :) Hide them all away. You'd think they would put a few on display at least!
#20
Aldi and Lidl seem to have a lot of trouble with getting stuff nicked. I think its because they employ less staff than big supermarkets so people think they can get away with it. I was at a Lidl store once and someone was having an argument with a cashier who said she'd stolen something and then just before I left I saw the employees chasing down the car park after a guy who'd nicked some fruit juice. It's not even in a very bad area.

:(
#21
That seems to happen anywhere these days, even with all the surveillance equipment available to them.
#22
I'll have to buy one of these for my parents, so when they babysit my son can watch his divx films;-)
#23
Is there a number you can ring to see if there is stock in a particular store?
#24
You could try the yellow pages' site to find a particular store... I don't think there's a single number or anything.
#25
huuuuuuuge stock at Coventry aldi today, all on shelf
#26
Loads of these in Leek and Stoke on Trent (on the road to Leek). Leek has reduced them to 19.99!! (Don't know if this is everywhere though as haven't been to Stoke for a while). I took the upscaling HDMI £40 one back as it was useless (played most of my dvds really pixelated) and swopped it for £20 and one of these!
#27
Was gonna go get one of these, then noticed the date of the thread!

Anyone know why this just popped up in the RSS?
#28
wow :| very odd
#29
Me too thought it was strange people talking about how a £30 or a £20 was great
