Hi, I'm a newbie so be nice and I hope I help someone!

I've just been trying to find an iPod as a present for someone, I didn't really care what colour, so opted for silver, (cheaper and non-offensive!). Anyhow, someone on here a little while ago suggested Dixons, which did come out quite cheap, but I price-runnered them, knowing they match any prices from other websites found using price runner. Ebuyer came out on top with £105.77 including delivery but for the cheapest form of delivery it wouldnt arrive until late next week and as it was a gift I couldn't afford to wait that long and I was not payin £20 for Saturday delivery!

I called Dixons, the lady was really helpful, matched the price to £105.99 (dunno where the 99p came from but oh well) and when I checked the product number there was a skin case and in car charger chucked in with it! Worth a try if anyone else is looking for an iPod.

Hope this helps someone!

Sadielou x

BTW Please don't tell me now that you have found it even cheaper you bargain hunters!!

Did you order over the phone or online?

Have you seen that written somewhere or told it by a Dixons rep? I haven't come across that.

Dont cold vote until we know the full story!

Oohh sorry I forgot to say that! Over the phone! Only problem was that I couldn't order the coverplan with her, but she gave me a seperate number for that.

The number to order / price match etc is 0845 850 0545

Did she not give you a code to order it online?

The price match promise is at the very bottom of the home page, it says it is powered by price runner, but they say they only accept the certain listed websites.

Hope that helps x

By the way it's £108.67 on Ebuyer after delivery (not free). I think that may have changed later today though.

The best bargain I guess is using the £10 with Google checkout to get it for £98.67 shipped from eBuyer.

I'm afraid not, no code to order online, but she was very helpful. I was hoping the more I gossipped the more I could get her down by. Haha x

Oooh damn it you can see I'm new, I used a premium rate number! Thanks for the tip!

;) There's not a better regular code than the ebuyer £10 one off though...

Ok so I'm getting the feelin I prob could have got it even a teeny bit cheaper, but not bad for a first attempt eh? Anyway might as well give the price match a go with other products no reason why that can't work I guess? x

When doing it over the phone what's the point though? Why go through hassle to get an item for the same price you would pay elsewhere - rather give the business to the merchant who isn't trying to screw you over in the first place.

Admin is right, especially when price mating a big company to a big company. I can see why when doing small to big tho.

Agreed. I would price match to get extra security from a large merchant like Dixons - but they only price match on their site to reputable merchants anyway so there's no value added by reducing risk.

If you could price match on OOS or get the online price match code and then use cashback or additional codes it makes sense. However, just doing a straight up phone price match to a reputable retailer is a waste of time and gives business to a company that doesn't deserve it.

I think of it like some saying I'm always going to try and rip you off but if you catch me then I promise to charge what I should be charging anyway but first jump through these hoops. It's kind of insulting.

The only price match policy with teeth is one where they punish themselves by beating any price - so saying if you find the equivalent we will take off x% of the difference. That's a real price match policy and puts the onus on them to make sure they really do have the best prices.

Totally right!

John Lewis have a good price match where they match the price and give their extended warranty! I don't know of any others that i would use.

Ok, didnt mean to rattle anyones cage! As I mentioned the reason I went through Dixons is because a) I have never bought anything throught ebuyer before and spending that amount of money when you are a student is worrying and b) the item would not arive in time with ebuyer, and i was not prepared to spend £20 for saturday delivery. Bonus was I actually got an incar charger and a skin thrown in, so yeah you are all right I prob could have done a bit better, but I'm new to this and I think I did ok???!

He he xx
[admin]#19
Didn't mean to discourage you sadielouise. Just talking about the price match policy itself.

Getting the charger and skin is a nice bonus but unfortunately that's just down to luck and thus doesn't really count as a deal for the public as other people will probably not get it.
