uhhm sorry but that would look hideous on your PS3 having constantly a large usb stick sticking out the front of your PS3.... if i wanted a remote i would defintely pay double (£15) for the official remote which is bluetooth and no extra dongle stabbing out of the ps3

Ever heard of removing it when not in use?

Just buy the officail remote.

Has everything you need, works well and is somewhere between £10 and £15 depending on mood of retailer :P

If it works not everybody may want to spend the £14 or so on the official one, we're not all as rich as you :p

Better just using the PS3 controller right surely.

Agree I just find the controller a bit clunky and want something cheap to control the blu-ray without spending too much so for just under £8 thats will work for me

removing it? then wth is the point, its extra effort for which having the official one you wouldnt have to bother with... and also with the official one, theres no setting up and can turn the ps3 on and off, whereas unofficial ones cant..

Im not disagreeing with you or saying the sony remote isnt any good, everything has a value, and I dont want to spend £14 on an official remote so this suits me fine. As with any usb dongle just remove it when not using it..simple

The point to these normally is so you can use your harmony or whatever anybrand remote so you don't need extra one for ps3 (with it not having ir and all)

Exactly! i got one of these a few months back, works fine but used it to program the harmony for ease of use.
the slim ps3 that I have only has two usb ports (!?) so I have one lead plugged into a hub that takes this receiver, a keyboard and has a couple of ports left spare too, fwiw, I tucked this outa sight and the harmony remote will still get the signal to it - magic!
h and r OP!

Nice price, but the extra USB makes me not want to buy it.
Only have two of them in the 40GB and normally both are in use
#13
Can these type of remotes official or not do anything a PS3 controller can't ?

Genuine question as I just use the controller, and can access menus, camera angles, subtitles, chapter skip, fast forward etc etc and that suits me, but if this was to give something else that I'm missing then I may be interested ??

If anyone wants one of these and to just pay postage feel free to PM me. I have an official controller and ended up with one of these as part of a set in which I just wanted the bluetooth headset and the controller dock. Totally unused just out of the box.

To be honest this is quite a good price as these tend to be a bit more expensive even for the 3rd party ones.
#18
astec are you offering an official one just for the postage, as i would love to take if off your hands then

One of the ones posted in the thread, the dixons version but game stop branded. Exactly the same. I already have an official PS3 one and have no use for this one as I said.

Received the remote today, dont listen to some of the whackos on here, my comments are based on using it. For under £8 its very handy, once you turn the Playstation on you can navigate all the menus including of course using the remote to control the blu-ray, I dare say you could use it to play the games but wouldnt be the same as using the controller!

I have found the remote far less cumbersome that the controller so yes its very convenient. The usb dongle is inconspicuous because it matches the colour of the console itself but can be removed when not in use. In terms on distance from the console I was able to use the remote from a good 15 feet away so has good reach (havent tried further distance). So where the Sony mugs want to pay nearly double the price for the official remote I can vouch this does the job fine. Lastly its comes with battery and has free delivery from Dixons.

The only thing you cant do with the remote is turn it off big deal, get off your backside and hit the power button

Actually, it can turn it off - via the ps3 menu system. Only the option of turning it on isn't there. Wonder when logitech are gonna bring out a new harmony that's ps3 compatible blutooth?

Glad to hear it works well for you too :)
