Based on the classic story, this was first broadcast in 1985 on Children's BBC. This release features four discs of the complete series and also has a free exclusive poster....

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds was a 26-part animated series made in 1981 by the South African company BRB Internacional. It was set in early 17th-Century France and based on the famous novel by Alexandre Dumas, written in 1844. But the adaption of the story had one very notable difference - the cast were all animals.

After a very bland first episode in the Gascony countryside, the action quickly switches to Paris, where our hero Dogtanian meets his new-found love, the beauiful Juliette. He joins up with the Three Musketeers, Porthos, Athos and Aramis - he aspires to joining their ranks. The Musketeers defend the King of France - Louis XIII, and his Queen, Anne of Austria. They fight under the command of the Captain of the Musketeers, Monsieur Tréville. Dogtanian also has the help of his horse Sandy, his valet Planchet, and Monsieur Pip, a mouse. Together, they battle to foil the plans of the scheming Cardinal Richelieu - the power behind the throne, and his associates - the beguiling Milady, the haughty Count Rochefort and the forever-failing Captain Widdemer.

Series 2: Special Features * Bouncing ball karaoke of the original 'Dogtanian And The Three Muskehounds' theme tune * Computer desktop wallpaper * Includes an episode from the first series of Dogtanian

Review: Loosely based on the classic Alexandre Dumas novel, 'The Man In The Iron Mask'.In the heady days of Louis XIII's France live Dogtanian and 3 courageous Muskehounds - Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Pledged to a life of adventure, they are mavericks, fighting for justice despite their sometimes unorthodox methods. All 26 episodes crammed onto four DVDs!

Got that blasted Dogtanian theme tune stuck in my head all day..... :-(
#15
have we all forgotten Dr Snuggles? :(

Those were the days ;-)

They just don't make thumping theme tunes like they did in 80's classic cartoons. A number of quality series were produced because they actually had a budget.

These links will help the memories flood back;

Dogtanian and the Three Muskehounds

Mysterious cities of gold

Ulysses 31

Pole Position

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors

Centurions

Obviously you have Dungeons and Dragons, Transformers,Thundercats and HeMan also, but the ones above tend to be the ones people can never remember the name of but remember the theme tune...:-D
