I must say this is a cracking deal - especially on the dedicated servers.

From my experience of them about 5 years ago, they absolutely sting you on domain name renewals after at the end of the 2/3 year period.

This is where they make their money (after all most people want to continue to own a domain name for more than 2 years) and is also the reason why I left.

Worst company ever

I also think it's a good idea to keep domain registration and dedicated servers with separate companies.

I had hosting with UK2 for years. The reason I left was I got fed up with paying close to £100 a year for hosting that included MySQL and PHP. I left to go to Easyspace - I cannot wait to leave ES and move back to UK2 as they are ultra reliable.

UK2 were traditionally extremely expensive, they now seem to have reduced all their packages and seem very competitive.

As for domain hosting charges - I still have one domain registered with them (I don't use it - just want to retain it) and I think it only costs me about £6 for two years. That is hardly stinging you with charges is it?

If we were talking about web hosting years ago - I would have almost certainly have agreed with you, but it seems those days have gone.

Why?

I shouldn't imagine to many people on here will rush out and buy dedicated servers however, though BOGOF on them is a good deal.

Grrrr, I've only just bought a domain name and I could have done with two. :-(

For the sake of a few quid extra, I would recommend shopping elsewhere with someone who doesn't have a pretty bad reputation.

As for the dedicated servers, setup costs of £100 to take into consideration as well.

Well I registered two domains for now - obviously got one free. Quidco tracked in at £6.43. So that means they are paying out on the free domain as well.

About £4 for TWO .com domains for a year isn't bad going.

I didn't particularly want two domains, I have been after one for ages that has freed up now, so I've bagged that, and I registered one I have 'joked' about registering for a while. I probably won't want it in a years time, so I'll stick it on eBay!

For servers, there's 49pservers.com which I recommend. I am with AAIH.co.uk which is very cheap and reliable - beein with them for 3 years. I use Godaddy and 1and1 for domain names.. No complains for now. FYI. It is normally cheaper to buy your domain names (not co.uk) outside UK.

I’ve had a domain with uk2net for many years and they have been very reliable. As of 12th May they are going to start charging an additional £4.99 per month for catch all e-mail forwarding - what a rip off! :x

Dear Customer,

I am writing to let you know of a change in the UK2 e-mail service provided with UK2 Domain Names.

Catch All Forwarding is an e-mail service provided on most UK2 Domains. This has been a standard part of our service for many years and can be very useful, but more recently has been abused by spammers. What Catch All Forwarding means is that all messages sent to any variant of e-mail address at your Domain Name (i.e. anything that precedes your Domain Name such as [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]) are delivered to an alternative email address. If you are actively using Catch All Forwarding this will be an e-mail address that you chose, or if you are passively using Catch All Forwarding this will be.

The new price for Catch All Forwarding is £4.99 per month and is already a chargeable option for new Domain customers. However, as an existing customer we are giving you a month of service for free while you decide on the best way for you to manage your e-mail. On Saturday 12th May 2007 the charging becomes applicable for existing customers.

Yes I have also never had an issue with them - they were always fine for me.

They have traditionally being a very expensive organisation, but these days it seems a lot cheaper.

The new £4.99 charge for catch all email is crazy. It seems they are justifying it by saying it will help them to reduce the amount of SPAM been received.

£4.99 a month for it would certainly discourage me from wanting it. Seeing as they are giving POP mail for free now, that's better anyway.

There's a much better offer with 1and1 instant domain. £1.99 per year + VAT ( minimum 2 years ) plus £2 quidco cashback on sign up. They also give 100 free e-mail forwards.

That £1.99 a year would be for a .co.uk .org.uk domain.

.co.uk & .org.uk domains are £3.98 from 1&1. Quidco is £2. Total Cost £1.98

.co.uk & .org.uk domains are £8.96 from UK2. Quidco is £3.50. Total Cost £5.46

That is clearly unbeatable by UK2 - infact that is a stunning price from 1&1.
.com & .net domains are £10.45 a year from 1&1. Quidco is £2. Total Cost = £8.45

.com & .net domains are about £11.73 a year from UK2. Quidco is £3.50. Total Cost = £8.23

UK2 works out cheaper here - just...
The thing that makes this deal good is it is Buy One Get One Free and that Quidco seems to track on the free domain too!

I use hostgator.com for my hosting. Very reliable and I've never had any problems with them. They have recently switched off their catch all email fwd due to spam but if you email them they'll turn it back on for your account for free.

At the moment I use ukreg for my domains but I think its time to start shopping around for a better deal.

I got this deal, and have the worst three days of my life dealing with this company. They even don't answer the 50p per minute telephone line!!! Avoid!!!

Could you explain in a bit more detail what your problem was, I am thinking of getting a dedicated server and I have submitted a test support ticket which was answered in under 5 minutes.

Thanks

There's alot of additional cost with uk2.net. The above package is for just 5 email forwards and webpage diversion with a great big uk2.net banner on the page.

Catch all email is £4.99 a month
More than 5 forward email addresses £1.42 a month
Web diversion without banner £1.00 a month

This is all included with 1and1 in the basic price ( includes 100 email forwards including a catch all ).

All very expensive for anything but a very basic domain package.

for £9.97 you can get a UK domain name registered for 2 years and 12 months web site hosting, unlimited email addresses with anti-spam, catch all, MySQL, cgi, fantastico scripts.
