resorts fine, but the local "town" is terrible!

Read the trip advisor reviews then see if it's a good deal, don't touch it with a barge pole, went there July 2103, now suing thomsons.

Stayed here few years back! Amazing place! Not one fault even with the locals allowed in at the weekend! If the entertainment team are still there mainly bon bon,Pepsi etc then your seriously in for the times of your lives! Best entertainment team even had

Stayed at the Merengue in April/May this year, the hotel is fine .. the only down side is they let the locals in over the week-end which makes the place too crowded!

I stayed in the cheapest of the 3 hotels, the Riu Mambo about 8 years ago and it was fine. As was the Bachata (which back then was the "posh" one). However the Merengue had a serious problem with food poisoning, to the extent the pool was completely closed for most of our holiday. Before we went I'd read similar reports about the Merengue dated several months earlier.

Despite being so long ago, it sounds like some problems persist.

stayed here in may.do not go to this hotel.they let the local stay at the weekend and they take over the place and run around drinking and shouting round the resort till 5 am every night.
If you are used to back packing holidays it will be Ok. If you want luxury and relaxation avoid at all costs

At last, a deal that doesn't link through Holiday Pirates. Cheers Mark, heat added.

Replace "the local" with Brits and you described many popular holiday locations.
Thanx Mark, voted hot.

I was on the complex in April/May, stayed in the Bachata which is next door. There is nothing wrong with it, and in fact was 1 of the best holidays i've been on. If you stay in the merenghue then you have access to the pools at the bachata which has a swim up bar. The locals do make it very over crowded at the weekends but it doesn't ruin any aspect of it. I would highly recommend going, if i had enough holiday entitlement left at work then i'd definitely be booking up to go again!

P.S - Agree with localshop - make sure you have lots of deet.

Stayed at the Bachata last year, excellent hotels, excellent staff, let down only by the swarms of ignorant arrogant Canadians!
