Good price for this 2 Disc set.

A director's cut of the directorial debut of Richard Kelly, which is a comic mixture of 80s sci-fi, horror and teen movie genres.

October 1988 and small-town USA is about to witness the end of the world. Well, that's according to Frank, a giant, talking rabbit that only Donnie Darko (Jake Gyllenhaal), a brilliant but troubled teenager, can see.

Frank has been urging Donnie to play dangerous pranks on his friends and dysfunctional family, but when he gets Donnie to leave his bedroom one night and tells him the world will end soon, strange things begin to happen - starting with the engine of an aeroplane plunging to ground and hitting Donnie's, now empty, bedroom.

been this price, or cheaper for ages. its another of those films that are ALWAYS dirt cheap.

not saying its not a good film, and a good price, but its not amazing, and im a little depressed at having to search through average deals like this to find the sparklers.

sorry im in a bad mood.

Fair enough. It's the cheapest I have noticed it.

I've seen the single disc version on here a few times but I don't recall this 2 disc . Director's Cut version being posted before so thought it was worth posting.

what exactly is the difference between the directors cut and the normal? And i reckon this is a classic film, one of my faves :)
#5
Its always been a really cheap dvd, but it is a classic film. I may get it if there is much of a difference with the director's cut.

The original film is one of my all time favorites. However the additions to the Director's Cut are terrible. Stick with the original.

i completely agree. the 2 disc set is only worth getting if you want the extras. the director's cut is like an 'idiot's guide to donnie darko'.

I third that. The Director's Cut is not worth owning/watching.

That said, good price for a 2 disc set.

Uh huh...

Anyway, don't bother with the 2-Disc Version of this film. As another post said, it's literally Donnie Darko for Spoon-Fed-Braindead-Zombie-Halfwit-Retards! Get the original instead. It's an absolute Classic!

This is a film which is very entertaining as you're watching it, but which leaves you baffled without being 'so clever it takes a while to understand it'. The internal logic of the screenplay makes no sense and this becomes all the more apparent if you listen to the writer-director's commentary. He has no idea how it was supposed to make sense either.
He's had the same problem with his next film 'Southland Tales' which has been stewing for years and is still borderline-unreleasable.

So, for casual entertainment - give it a go. For film buffs - yes, you're right, it's a load of c*ck.

Sympathize with you on that general principle. e.g. There's currently a thread for some mightily hot Olive Oil that virtually no-one seems to have actually managed to buy.

As for this deal. Good film (IMHO), and a decent deal. However, the fact the next cheapest price I found is only ~50p more reduces its impact a little.

i picked up the single disc version of this in tescos for £2 last week, incase anyone wants to save the 96p.

good film, great buy, but i have a distinct feeling that i will never play the dvd ...

If it's the 2 disc director's cut, it also has a DTS soundtrack...
