A good, but much over-rated film, I think.

Still, far better than this Twilight sh*te =/

It doesn't have to have a mass following to be over-rated... *that* isn't the same thing.

Many people who form the cult following insist that it is one of the best films of all time... and I personally disagree.

it's great that both versions are on the same disc. i think i'll wait till the price goes down a bit, as i'm sure it won't be long till it's half that price, and i've seen bother versions of the film enough times, so i'm in no rush to see it again. i think it will benefit from HD as there is a lot of stuff crammed on the original discs, so a higher bitrate and higher resolution, and higher sound quality (as it has a great soundtrack) will be great

A film doesn't have to have a mass following to break even at the box office either, but it didn't

You stated the film was over-rated, so lets say for arguments sake, only 10 people in the world liked it, and all of them swore the film was the best they had ever seen, thus over rating it, is the film then over-rated in general? or is it just by people who liked it, which is the same as every other film isn't it?

In this case, the people who liked it ( the cult ) are in the minority, so how can they form the general consensus of it being 'over-rated'?

This 'Cult' was formed because this film didn't get the praise it deserved ( in their eyes ), which is perhaps where your confusion/misconcenption has come from, since you are more likely to hear someone go out on a limb to praise this film, all because it failed in the cinema.. thus giving you the impression that every one praises this film, it ain't true..

So as you can see, it is not over-rated in general, just by those who are a 'cult' follower, they are bound to praise it highly..no? it would be like going to a star trek convention and coming out of it complaining that wrath of khan was overrated.

I am not a massive fan of this film, but i admire it as it is different, and i refuse to watch the general Hollywood lovey dovey, happy ending contrived dribble..

The cult is hardly a small minority anymore.

The film has become massively popular post-cinema.

Of the people who have watched it, very few people just say it's a decent film (which it is). The vast majority either don't like it at all, or will claim it's the OMGBESTEST.

From experience, it is also very much "cool" to be in that group of people because of the "kooky" and "randomlolz" factor for people who essentially follow the crowd, but like to think of themselves as quirky and different.

Hehe, well, then it sounds like Marmite, either love or hate it, either way, i wouldn't say marmite was overrated..but i do hate it :-D

Hehe... I quite like this film, and I'm not bothered either way by marmite... in other words, I'm bloody awkward =D
