Life is one long insane trip. Some people just have better directions.

A troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a large bunny rabbit that manipulates him to commit a series of crimes, after narrowly escaping a bizarre accident.

What a bargain for a nugget!

Good price, but it's been so cheap for so long now (as well as the Director's Cut being given away free with a newspaper) that it's more of a normal price than a real "hot deal" in my opinion. Heat added anyway, though.

£1 Hot!!

True, I watched this film a couple of years back and I was baffled for days until I got to the following weekend and watched it again to understand the twist, thanks for the heat though, cheers bud.

hot...

This has been a cheapy for ages now both on and off line, they were giving it away in the paper not long ago aswell lol.

Poundland do have some other good films in there at the moment like :) details in another poundland thread.

got this free on dvd club :Dhttp://www.free-dvd-club.com/

yeah can't argue with a quality film for a quid.

however, whatever you do, don't bother seeing Southland Tales, the new film by the same director, cos it's frickin terrible. :)
#9
great film

this is much better than the directors cut so go for it... the directors cut adds stuff that shouldn't be there.

as for southland tales... i read the comics before seeing the film and really enjoyed it.
as a commercial film release, having to read 3 comics to understand a film (with a terrible cast), i can see how it bombed.

don't get me wrong, i could see what he was trying to do....but it was just all a bit of a mess.

i dread to think what the first cut of it was like, because the press *really* hated that one at the festivals lol

i'm not getting you wrong - southland tales was horrific! :)
I just loved it and was glad that buying the graphic novels/comics paid off.
i'm hoping that one day the festival version will arive, but i don't know if it will be that different... filming parts 4 to 6 and expecting you to know what happened in 1to3 in another medium was far too arrogant .

BUT donnie darko - get it if you aren't afraid of thinking WTF at the end of a film.... no graphic novels required for this one :)
(sorry for the slight thread hijack - blame Hydes)

Am I the only person on the planet who hates this movie!?:p
#16
no ur not, Watched it myself and thought it was pointless.Twists with no real ending are stupid and arragant on the directors part.
#17
This is an excellent film.

Entirely different plot - but the thoughts it inspires is like The Prisoner from the 1960s - you just keep thinking about it afterwards.

Heat and rep - as its even cheaper than pirating.

Harvey?!?

One of my faves.....I got it the first time through but was just as much fun the second time through....double the value really. Best price I've seen it so far apart from the newspaper offer, though you still had to pay for the paper.
#20
ok, i got this donnie darko dvd free from http://www.free-dvd-club.com/ but for £1 it's still worth buying as this is a CLASSIC movie of all time.

Good find amongst all the £shop deals

I saw this when it was on limited cinema release and thought it was ace.
I bought it as soon as it arrived on dvd and loaned it to my mates. I found that generally those that didnt understand it, didnt like it. In the original, some of it is left up to your own interpretation which i liked as it gets you talking about the movie and coming up with your own conclusions.
Every film fan must have seen this by now, if you havent, go spend two pound, one on this and the other on a big bag of cadburys chocolate assorted mis-shape sweeties. :-D

2 disk directers cut at asda NOW £2 but not with the cool hologram cover : )

If you were somewhat perplexed by Donnie Darko, Salon put together a rather interesting explanation of the plot, http://dir.salon.com/story/ent/movies/feature/2004/07/23/darko/index.html

I don't know anyone that did understand it without reading what the writer was trying to get across. Maybe I'm too much of a blood and guts type of guy to appreciate such a film but anything where I have to go and read explanations from the director to explain certain events (which aren't even shown in the film, so its understandable you wouldn't "get it") seems a but too much like hard work. Maybe I should go and direct half a film, make up some off the wall explanation of what the dumb viewers couldn't see between the lines and call it a cult classic ;)

Summary- good price but I'd rather buy a lottery ticket, you've got more chance of hitting the jackpot than understanding the film :P

Oh c'mon it wasnt that complicated, just needed a bit of lateral thinking and some creative imagination, its a great film, great soundtrack, great cast, top notch, much better than the directors version. Try watching Mulholland Drive and then tell me Donnie Darko was inexplicative.:?
#31
damm! Wont this film just die?
#32
I think its a bit arrogant to say it wasnt complicated as I didn't think there was a definitive explanation and that it was very open to interpretation. I've read numerous theories many of which make sense but they can't all be right but they all think they are. Great film well worth £1 if you havent seen it.
