The Doors were still working on arrangements and feeling out their moves when they played the Matrix Club in San Francisco for four nights in March, 1967 just two months after the release of their revolutionary self-titled debut album.

These seminal gigs were captured on tape and have since become the most bootlegged The Doors material, also previously unreleased until this new two-disc set from Bright Midnight Archives and Rhino. Produced by longtime Doors engineer/producer Bruce Botnick, who notes, "This is likely the closest we've come to a true document of The Doors without constraints."

'Live At The Matrix' features over two hours of performances from lead singer Jim Morrison, keyboardist Ray Manzarek, drummer John Densmore, and guitarist Robby Krieger as they cut loose in a funky club owned by the Jefferson Airplane's Marty Balin and also features 'Get Out Of My Life Woman', by Allen Toussaint, which has not previously appeared on any Doors album live or studio!

Morrison also spouts a great deal of poetry during the shows, and Densmore writes in his section of the package's liner notes, "The audience didn't know they were seeing and hearing a future icon...of course, we didn't know it either."

The album cover was designed by Stanley Mouse best known for his psychedelic art designs for 1960s rock concert posters, as well as Grateful Dead and Journey album cover art.
