Double the difference refund on mistakes!

waby1234waby1234

This is in store only I imagine, but Tesco offer double the difference refunds if they make a mistake on your bill i.e. if something on the shelf is listed at a certain price and the item goes through the till for more!

Last night at Tesco, Quinton (Birmingham) we bought 4 packs of Clearasil Face Pads which were listed with a shelf price of £1.59. These went through the till at £3.49. We were therefore due £7.60 back when we went to sort this out at the customer service desk. However, we were actually given £15.20 back as the assistant said they have to give back double the difference! Obviously they need to make a mistake but worth remembering in future!

Is this a new thing? Thought they'd been doing this for around 4 years or so.

Thanks for the tip, if only ASDA did the same..

This has been standard Tesco policy for many years.

Tesco are scumbags that have raped the UK farming & crop growers community for years.

I don't know if it is new or not but they don't exactly advertise it....

You are right. Around 2003 they had a large "price promise" sign on large billboards around the Customer Service in my local Tesco, stating they'd refund double the difference on pricing errors. I seem to remember getting a stock of bacon free of charge, plus double my purchase price back, because they'd mispriced it on the shelf. ;-)

They used to a few years ago. I think current policy involves giving you a gift card for x amount if you get overcharged at the till. Not 100% on that though.

This is a pretty poor substitute for Tesco's former policy of R&R.

They used to refund all your money and allow you to keep the goods.

Some people (no names, no pack drill ) used to take advantage of this scheme and ended up with free xbox360's, ps2's, ds lites, freezers full of roast joints, 100's of cd's/dvd's/books, dysons, TV's, computers and booze.

    Takes me back ....

If only I realised this when I got overcharged on a CD before xmas! Sw1nes!

Normally, if you point out an overcharge at he Customer Service Desk at ASDA they will give you the difference and a £2 voucher.

Tesco would rather give you the cold shoulder after the number of people who cashed in on the fact that Tesco were (and still are) overcharging people on so many products.

MoneySavingExpert.com has a forum thread dedicated to Tesco overcharging.

Tesco are a complete and utter joke imho. Remember thier price match campaign where they compared to Asda etc? Want to know who they compare themselves with now? Ocado (Waitrose), well known for being quite possibly the most expensive supermarket in existence

Heres the link for those that doubt : http://www.tesco.com/pricewatch/?rfrom=glnm2

TIP! Use The Price Check Computers located around the store to be 100% sure of overcharge before going through the till. Also pay for your items first as they will try to sort it out before you pay/get overcharged. Make sure the label matches the product!!

Why are people voting this cold though? Surely if you buy something and they overcharge and give you double the difference back thats a good thing! If you have a problem with Tesco in general why bother reading the topic!

Tesco used to refund you in full and let you keep the item, this changed to double the difference at the start of last year after thousands of people got free xbox 360s, SONY LCDs etc due to misprices of pennies on the shelf labels and the actual price..

    RNR RIP.

A lot of stores have taken down their posters that say DTD on them. They seem to be backing down on this as well.

Bring back the days of the free PSP and Xbox. They were great!

Asda did give us a twice the amount back for 2 of THERE sirloin steaks one was just a lot of string basicly and nothing like a sirloin impossible to eat so we took it back they said you get a refund and a new pack we said we dont want a new pack so they gave us twice the amount back was on a gift card thing but still made a extra £6.50 out of it.

Biased? That link I posted is the latest pricematch data if you bother to check the dates and it's from their OWN site, as in Tesco.com not someunkonwnbiasedcompanywhosgostitinfortescos.com::roll:

Possibly because ( as mentioned above) this is a step down from what was previously offered i.e. the item free of charge. In those days people actively hunted for misprices.

I'd still like someone to explain why this is a cold deal? If you buy something, its mispriced, you get double the difference back, how can that possibly be negative? its a fact, just because they no longer give you the item for free anymore is pretty much irrelevant as you cannot get that situation.

I've no idea, theres a special tesco misprice thread on MSE so you can make a nice little list of current misprices, also you can always make sure they havent corrected them by making use of the self scanners they have scattered round the stores.

Also once they have given you the double the difference you can always decide you no longer want the item and ask for a refund :)
