Yeah, I think the price is a bit low for a pair of DM's - I'd have expected 20-30 quid or therabouts as a minimum  I'm sure I have a pair of DM shoes (from 1984) somewhere that cost me £25 at the local army surplus store.

A mate of mine used to buy "Major Domo" boots, which were basically a copy but even they cost more than £7.00

For the record:

Current data is only available till 2008. In 2008, £7.00 from 1983 is worth

£17.70 using the retail price index.
£26.00 using average earnings.

Other than being an established fashion icon, I'm not convinced that DM's are good boots by any other measure.

When I was a young un, strutting about in my DM's (and looking oh so cool at the time no doubt...:whistling:) not knowing any better, I would have considered they were a decent set of boots.

Frankly they are very cheap, with a tendency to split the soles, and due to the amount of plastic in them your feet will likely be pretty sweaty and not particularly comfortable - you can still look cool but have hot feet I suppose?...

In my mispent youth, I spent 6 years wearing boots every single day - provided free of charge via the Army... I'd choose a set of "Boots, Combat, High Leg" any day of the week over DM's.

Failing that an wishing to look fashionable, with oh so comfy tootsies (but a bit on the warm side) it's hard to fault Timberland boots

That's my tuppenceworth.

I have the blair version of these which is basically the same but with more eyelets and a zip up the side for easy access!

They are without a doubt the comfiest Docs I have ever owned and I have had a couple pairs. If you look closely at the pic you can see these are lined with fleece - the fleece is really think and warm and cushiony so stops docs from rubbing like mad usually they take a while to wear them in but these are instantly super comfy - also the suede upper helps for the same reason!

Not sure if blair is still available in as many sizes but I got them in pink a couple weeks ago for under £35 and they are amazing!

Schuh and urbanoutfitters charge loads more for these infact even topshop was selling DMs a wee while ago - so they must be fashionable at the moment but really these are a classic especially for a rockchick such as myself :P
