I love reading threads like this. As a cyclist I have an interest in them, and I posted a deal that got massively flamed because in the eyes of people who saw a £130 bike light it was just the same as the tat you get for £1.99 down the market. I'm not saying everyone should spend as much as possible, or in this case an £1100 bike is for everyone, but for some people who are looking then it will be of interest. I think too many people forget this site is called hotukdeals.com and isn't everythingI'mnotinterestedinorknownothingaboutshouldcostaslittleaspossible,butthatwon'tstopmefromcriticisingothers.com.

You make a good point but I'm afraid it falls apart when you try to promote a bike light for £130 - NO bike light is worth that much.

um... yes it is! You will find it difficult to get a decent bike light to see withfor less than £100. A cheap thing from tesco is fine to be seenbut is no good if you want to light up the road.

The cheapest solution to this is to buy torches from places like dealextreme instead but that's not ideal really. I mean the cheapest bike lights for this purpose on dealextreme are still about £60 and they're not branded.

FWIW, I went 2nd hand on ebay when I get into road cycling last year. Spent < £300 & got a decent spec bike. Added a cheapo helmet & padded shorts (£17 DHB ones from Wiggle -SOOO good) & I was set.

Once I found I liked it & still did a few months later, I added clipless shoes/pedals, computer & some other bits & bobs.

Now looking to take advantage of C2W scheme & I'm leaning towards a ribble. Will it do anything my current machine doesnt? Probably not (It's a 105 equipped triple). Will it be new, shiny & give me a warm feeling inside every time I ride it? (every weekday & some weekends) I think so!
That's a good spec bike for the money. Why spend over £1k on a bike? I spent almost £2k on my mountain bike (8 years ago!) raced and took part in events on it (all for fun) and found the quality that I spent the money on was worth every penny when it let me hammer it down the nastiest trails without once complaining! Long live bike porn :D

Did I say I could do better? No

I said OK deal,..... Is that ok?
XT where it counts and Deore everywhere else the parts are excellent for a £400 bike .

Only issue is at a 21" frame you are looking at riders in the land of the giants territory for this, but for all you super tall people out there this is a good deal.

Good frame, bad parts.

Ok deal

Perhaps you could point other readers at a bike which has better components and an equivalent frame for this price?
Good frame, bad parts.

Ok deal
