If you look around Amazon/Ebay this spec was always around this price. For a few pound more (around £5) you can get 2gb ram and for maybe £10 more you can get 5ghz WIFI channel support also. The MX111 boxs also have a Mali 450 Octa-Core GPU. Fedup looking through so many of them to replace my old M8 box to post links!

What's the difference between this model and yesterday's model. (apart from the price). The spec looks the same.. I got yesterday's one but thinking of cancelling that and getting this..

Fair comment, but you do get the Amazon after sales service that youmay struggle with on the likes of ebay.

Still thinking myself of going for the Fire Tv box as its now down to £64 and more or less has one of the best specs around for an android Box. If you don't mind playing around to get XBMC installed. Agree with the Ebay after my last box (just over a year old) stopped working and the seller doesn't reply to emails. Hence had been looking at the zillion options through Amazon Prime still undecided!
Though XBMC on the Linx tablets works very well which is what I'm currently using just.
Got Plex working on my NowTv box also.

I got a box with these specs, can get slow. I would keep the other and have the extra ram for the few extra quid you pay.

The cyclone X4 looks more like this box but is cheaper at £46.99

It gives you XBMC (youtube it). And anything from the Google Play store. Basically its an android phone for your telly without the phone calls part (well okay you can Skype)

Would this be better than the amazon fire tv for running xbmc

Was actually just reading up about that. Appears the Fire Tv does not allow USB playback unlike the droid boxes. Though depends on your setup as it can stream from network drives. Appears that is the only drawback and most report that XBMC runs incredibly fast and smooth on Fire TV. Loads of comments on the below Fire TV post.

Yes in short. Try installing XBMC onto your PC and play around with it to see if you would fancy having something like this easier to use attached to telly without having PC on. Google "Kodi" (new name for XBMC) and lots of vids on youtube for setting up the channels.

Loads of youtube vids on installing XBMC onto the fire box. Though from reading up it is advisable to watch them first, think when you first switch on the box you may need to not allow the auto update, but further posts I think have a way around it now. Anyhow best to read first before switching it on!

I think you're getting XBMC install and rooting confused (as I have XBMC without rooting).

You can install XBMC with any OS on the FireTV, so no need to prevent any updates - it's very very easy, especially if you use "adbfire" as that includes all the relevant bits and you literally just add the IP address for the FireTV. The only down point is that XBMC won't go on to your "Home" page as it's not Amazon approved, but you can work around this by using a different App called "Llama" (this allows you to change the shortcut from an existing app to launch XBMC instead).

If you want to root it then you need to prevent the FireTV from updating, though I'm not convinced about the relative merits of rooting it (as rumours persist of Amazon borking rooted boxes). IMO, once you have XBMC you don't really need anything else (in terms of media playback), though I appreciate some like to install the Google shop etc.

What's the best TV Box for similar money? Must have good wifi?
#31
My personal advice would be don't bother unless you can load Lollipop onto it - this android is designed for tv usage. Also I feel Google Cast is a must have feature.

I would wait until you can buy a device with these features is available at a reasonable price.

I've heard a few random people on & off over the Months compare their WD Live Boxes to the then 'new' all singing all dancing Smart Box out there that dared to show a mention on HUKD .. its like comparing a 1990's Electronic Typewriter to a 1990's PC .. yes (with a wee few tweaks & the like?) they'll all get to a 'similar result', but one of these two (by way of its Software if nothing else) will definately always have more tricks up its sleeve then that of the other ..... (whether that's a 'Plus Feature', or a 'Minus Feature', only you the 'User' could ever decide that one, simply put ..... lol) :-)
