It's less than two-thirds the size of the original Nintendo DS and more than 20 percent lighter.
Its two bright screens can be adjusted to four levels to adapt to different lighting conditions and to extend battery power.
The microphone sits in the center of the unit, and the LED lights are clearly visible whether the unit is open or closed.
The stylus is 1 centimeter longer and 1 millimeter thicker than the stylus of the original, and slides into a side storage slot.
The Start and Select buttons were repositioned for easier access.
A removable cover keeps the Game Boy Advance cartridge slot clear from dust and debris when it's not in use.

It has just been announced in the video games press that Nintendo will soon be selling three new colours in Europe, they will be Red Lime green and Light Blue!

I think the point of this deal is that the DS is RED, the red ds's aren't officially due to be released until the 13th of June in the UK.

Dannyzz, The tesco deal has no relevance to those who want these colours. They don't sell them in this country, and they're ALOT nicer than the ones we get.

and FMP, the red colour that's coming here is a rather girly... nailpolish red, not crimson and black. The crimson and black was released as the adult edition DS in the states, and the cobalt blue and black followed. it's a nifty two tone effect.

Be aware to anyone buying the Crimson & Red in spite of what simply games may say this product comes with NO WARRANTY Nintendo Europe will not give support for a import even if you bought it from a UK dealer. Also the mains adapter they package with this is a very cheap made in China (my one exploded!)

As above... the red that will be released is not the same as the crimson and black. The base for the crimson and black is matt black. The red model is all red and glossy all over. IMO the crimson and black is better looking.

rare for bape to make a rubish looking design :whistling:

I would have done the bape camo on a ds

I picked one f these up in the States last month for the top price of £65! I don't think I'd pay the premium here for one though. Its nice but not that nice and without the real warranty as well. I was happy to live without the warranty at the price I paid for it but if I wanted one here I'd just settle for the black. Anyway, tight as I am I'm going to send the parents to the States soon for a colbalt/black (£65 again hopefully) one to stop the kids fighting over it.

Wouldn't orders be hit with tax duty?

Please be aware like someone else mentioned Nintendo UK give no warranty for this model as it's an import from the states !!!
I work in a shop and deal with the Nintendo DS returns and we get about 1 in 10 DS's returned ( Broken hinges/Screens not working/Dead units/Microphone faulty/battery not charging )!!
I would wait 2 weeks and get the better all Red UK version or get the Crimson/Black version direct from the states cheaper !

Got one from ebay, japan make. Loved the crimson red colour really....so much funkier than the other 3 colours you get in the UK at the moment. Cost me £130 tho although it came with acessories.
#19
I paid £68 for my crimson/black unit from Toys R Us in New York in March.
It looks really nice and I too wasn't bothered about the warranty at that price.

It doesn't sound like the UK red will look as cool.

Hi all, newbie here! I'm really interested in purchasing this DS but am now a little dubious after reading a few posts about their realiability / warranty issues. It seems Simplygames.com offer a six month warranty though, obviously not as good as the full year you would normally get but I guess any obvious casing or screen faults would reveal themselves in this time?

Also a little concerned about the AC adaptor, I've read twice now of ones which have blown up (!) Can anyone confirm whether you can use a standard DS (not lite) adaptor with it as I have an old style DS already. Thanks!

You can't use a DS adaptor with it as the DS adaptor is bigger so you can't plug it into the Lite one. My DS Lite Adaptor blew up as well 2 weeks ago but hey, get another one for £3 on ebay from US :)

Also not really bothered about warranty I've had my NDSLite for more than 3 months now and it's still going strong :)

thanks for that Vivicia. Sorry, if I'm being slow here...but it also needs to be an American version of the adaptor then? Cheers :)

No! You just need to make sure it says UK AC Mains adaptor on either the DS you're buying it with or ebay. It's the same plug on the NDSLite end but only different on the side where you plug into the mains. Like I said a few posts ago I'm using a Japanese make of this NDSLite and I'm using the UK Charger fine (apart from one blowing up after 3 months)
#24
ah ok, thank you for your help! Think I'll get one then, well as soon as I sell my old style pink DS that is! Shame they're not bringing it out in the UK, the all red one clearly isn't going to look as good and as for lime green..

Replacement AC adapters for the DS lite with a UK plug are available from www.dealextreme.com for around £3.
