#2

They most likely know that the others will sell out pretty quickly and then people will have no choice but to pay the higher price,

I think i will probably go with the game bundle - Nintendo DSi Console with GTA: Chinatown Wars + CoD: World at War + FREE Accessory Pack £169.99, seems pretty good compared to the rest and will get reward points on it aswell,
#5
Hmm yeh, deciding with Tesco + 10 % discount or the one you said from Game (Nintendo DSi Console with GTA: Chinatown Wars + CoD: World at War + FREE Accessory Pack £169.99). Is there any discount codes for Game online? anyone know?

This is the bundle I've gone for. Seemed to be the best for the money. Though the games are only worth £15-£18 each, it's still a saving!

No discount codes for GAME online.

Can't use Student Discount on hardware at HMV. First day or so you could on the DSi, but it was soon corrected.
#7
remember 5% at play makes it 142.49 cheapest price available and free accessory pack
#8
Thanks for the thorough research, heat and rep added.
#9
yeah the game deals look great, i preordered from there, already have the dispatch email so hopefully shuld be here tomorrow on release day
#10
Fo those that have a DS and are going to buy a DSI do you really think it is worth it for a camera and slightly larger screen ?

As the new price on a DS seems to be £87.99 your paying around £55-£60 more.
banned#11
trading my sons dslite into Game for 75.00, then trading in four old games he has completed for 50.00...........so after both trade in's , i will only have to pay 24.99 for the new console.......... paid deposit for one last saturday and we get it tomorrow.......i have one happy 8yr old boy ...
#12
game have a instore deal

im 99% sure this is what it is

basically £150 for the DSI

trade in your DS and pay £75

and also if you trade in 2 games (any 2 ds games)

you bascially get this:

A New DSi + the accessory pack + 2 years accident cover for the DSi

and it costs you £75

sounds like a good alternative deal

The pricing by Nintendo is disgraceful, a fair price would have been about £20 above the DS price. It can't cost them a lot more to manufacture as it's old technology just with a few cameras added.

£150 would get an Xbox 360! (with £20 change if you got an arcade!), but I suppose that's what happens when a company sells a much as Nintendo have in recent years, they can do what they like as everybody wants the product thats "cool" at the moment/kids nagging parents etc. Although the DS has got some great games I think people should just stick with DS Lite as you can pick them up for almost half the price. The DSi is not really worth double the price, however all this blurb is just IMHO.

As, I said earlier, I am trading in with Game.

The offer is 4 games to trade in for 50.00 (all games must be in their cases)
plus

old dslite trade in 75.00 (you must also trade in charger)

then you only pay 24.99. we had to pay a deposit on saturday of 20.00, will only have to pay 4.99 on collection.
#15
been posts about this for ages, got my dsi + free acc + BT comin - should be here tomorrow at the v latest from game! i don't like gta on handhelds or COD, got on ps3, so ordered BT instead, can't lose! I bet most women would rather have this package lol
#16
I'll be doing instore at gamestation.

Trade in dslite knock off £75 first of all.

then getting the 149.99 deal with a acc pack and a selected game! Bargain (H)
#17
I am sticking with the DS Lite brigade until the fanfare dies down. The DSi gives me no compelling reason to switch at this point, but a BIG reason not to switch is no *cough*card*cough compatibility.

Can someone convince me otherwise?!

Thanks to the OP though for the consolidated list - useful for many on here I am sure.
#18
it's my first ds, so i can't wait, rather buy the newer version :D
#19
wow up to £160 for a DS lol. You could get a Wii or 360 for that price. I don't think they will sell so hot especially given the times. £150 even seems way too much £100 tops it should have just replaced the DS lite.

But this effectively means you've paid £175 to own a DSi (assuming you paid £100 for the original DS).
#22
I have already preordered the DSi's. do you think I will be able to add games to the package?/
#23
can you use R4 cards on the DSi?

if not, then it would be a huge waste of money to buy the console
#24
Not everyone will use the DSi for pirated games and homebrew! :) I assume the majority of slot-1 devices will have problems - also the DSi loses the GBA slot so that rules out any slot-2 devices.
#25
ordered 2 of them for my kids and 1 for me of course
People overlook the downloadable games, DSi excusives and motion sensor games yet to be releases here, but will be comming soon!

And I refuse to use R4 cards, so not bothered by that!
#26
Just spoke to Gamestation on the phone there are 4 packages in there!
£149.99-accessory pack and 1 game(majong or funfair carnaval)
£159.99-accessory pack and GTA Chinatown Wars
£169.99-accessory pack and any game in store
£179.99-accessory pack, 2gb memory card and 2000 nintendo point!
Hope this helps someone!

- Downloadable games - got that now already on DS.
- DSi exclusives - none yet.
- motion sensor games - none yet.

So, nothing above the humble DS which can be picked up fore half the price of the DSi.... Hmmm....;-)

Its a pretty sad state of affairs when the packs all include games already available for the DS and not a single DSi exclusive! Which leaves me even more convinced that this is a) an attempt by Nintendo to simply drive more profits out of an existing line (price is up 50%, but cost is probably only up 10-20%) and b) clamp down on piracy.
#29
The best price that i have seen is Toys R Us (in store) £134 !!!!!
or
£149 with 2 games (Sonic & Thrillville) & accessory pack but limited stock so be quick
#30
I got mine from littlewoods for under £120 and it came today by using a voucher code. Funny thing is that the thread was on here but voted cold!!! I don't know why as mine has come and none of the prices on your list are better.

Thanks to the OP for posting though, very helpful for those on the hunt.

I think there is a good reason people have overlooked all these new things that the DSi brings...

Have fun stretching your photos on your new sparkly £150 machine. :)
#32
I'm thinking about getting my daughter a DS and I can't see how the £50+ justifies the DSi over the Lite.
Some photo and audio manipulation? No thanks. I'll wait a week and watch the price of the Lite plummet then pick one up.

2 Cameras, improved speakers, bigger screens, button layout redesign, lighter, 4x more RAM, 133mhz CPU over DS lite's 67+33mhz CPU's, 256mb Internal Memory over 4mb Internal on the Lite, SD/SDHC slot, and of course DSI ware with the free DSi Web Browser which is apparently quite improved over the previous browser.

Trust me I've done my research and overall if your looking to buy a DS now your best option would be to try get a DSi as cheap as you can. It's simply a better little machine on quite alot of levels.

Nintendo have worked their magic on you.
Not seen one single comment from anyone that they have noticed a single thing you have pointed out.Maybe they are busy playing their new DSi games?

I didn't realise that it had 67+33mhz CPU's though, I am tempted to splash out on one now i've heard that. :)

I'm a pretty heavy gamer so I look into this stuff. I got a normal DS back near launch and sold it within a couple of weeks - the software lineup was just awful, however I really have to hand it to them theres some pretty good games now which remind me of the same style as when the GBA was at its peak.

I have a PSP now, and a gaming pc, 360 and ps3. The PSP's software lineup alone us just plain poor but custom firmware really opens the system up - its the only reason I havn't sold it.

Whats surprising is how Nintendo have genuinely bumped the tech specs of the system along with many other nice improvements. It wouldn't surprise me that they plan to make DSi exclusive games in the near future, or games which have added features for DSi, or just simply more graphics intense games which run slightly better.

Agree with all of that.

You are surprised that they have genuinely upped the spec? It's 50% more expensive than the DS lite!

I'm sure they will, but anyone rushing to get one today, why have they bought it? What are they doing that I am not doing on my DS lite?

I suggest it's down to nothing more than the P.R machine of Nintendo working its magic.

Just simply for the fact of sectioning their playerbase, although they'l probably be smart about it and like I said have games which have extended DSi functionality.

Just a neater improved machine overall. For someone like me who doesn't own a DS then it's the best one to go for if you have the cash.

I agree if I already had a Lite I definitely wouldn't be running out to buy one. Although many shops are offering pretty decent trade-in deals for Lite's to buy a DSi which makes the cost significantly less. But if I already owned a DS theres no way I would pay full whack for one no.
