I'm not sure these are Vista compliant - wasted my money recently buying something very similar then couldn't get the correct driver.

Vista compatible stick is here for £17.85 delivered :)

Do you know if they work on a mac?

Certainly very cheap, however I would suggest you read the customer reviews on the Ebuyer site which can be summed up as "It's ****". People reporting crashes on install & won't receive all channels.

it's useless

software is terrible

performance is poor

purchase at your peril

Check if there are BDA drivers available before you buy. Otherwise you're locked into using the software supplied which is often not very good.

I spent a little more and got the Freecom equivalent a while back. It's got BDA drivers so can be used with better apps such as GbPVR, and it works in Linux too.

dont forget google checkout, if people want them club together and buy 2 :)

How do these work? Would I need any other hardware? I have a Dell Dimension E521 (I think thats the model).

I did exactly the same, most of these sticks are not compatible with Vista.

Although part of the name is Vista, if you look in the system requirements, Vista is not mentioned.
Ambiguous.

absolutely agree.

terrible deal, but I guess the original poster didn't know that. These items look cool, but are nearly universally a waste of time and money.

That's a bit of a generalisation. I have a Leadtek one and it's superb with Vista

I bought one of these a while back. You'll get better reception using your finger than the ariel supplied! Im in a good signal area and could not pick up any channels with what was supplied. You will need to plug this into a proper outdoor ariel
#15
is it possible to plug in the sky aerial socket in my flat to get better performance (at least a few freeview channels)?

The software certainly won't but if you can find out the real name of the manufacturer you may find it's supported by Elgato's (excellent) EyeTV software. There are open source solutions for Linux, though I can't get them to work on my iMac running Ubuntu but none AFAIK for OS X. Your best bet is to spring for/"obtain" either the cheapest Elgato option or just the software. I know for a fact that the Hauppage/WinTV sticks you can pick up for under 20 quid in Tesco etc work fine with that.

worth checking that you can recive the channels in your area as i got the one from amazon a few weeks ago and cant use it.....

No, as this is designed for terrestrial signals via an aerial.

thanks!

I've had two of these from ebuyer in the past and neither have worked ever. Not worth it.
#22
So this has been voted hot over 100+, yet from comments the chances of this actually working well is slim.

I agree, I had a few of these and returned each one.

They are terrible and dont work properly and I only live 5 miles from Crystal Palace and it would only find 10 channels and all of them the picture broke up and the sound was poor.

These usb freeview are just NOT worth the money.

I bought this from Sumvision following a HUKD recommendation:
http://svp.co.uk/product/sumvision_dvb_minus_t3420_freeview_usb_tv_stick_4443
Now £19.68 delivered. A bit of a pig to set-up, and supplied antenna is as much use as a chocolate fireguard (and I live 1 mile from the Sutton Coldfield transmitter). Used an old ariel from a defunct TV, and reception (and picture quality) good. I can now multitask on the PC! Worth 20 quid.
