Just been playing Duke Nukem Forever on the Xbox. It sucks, big time. Shame as it's reportedly been in development on and off for over 10 years!! But it looks and feels like a first-gen xbox/ps3 game!

Do you get to go inside a strip club in the demo? if so, did you not spend 45 minutes giving the girls money and saying "shake it baby"???

I was 16 when I got my first proper PC, loaded with a shareware copy of Duke Nukem 3D. Loved it. And shortly after, I read about the exciting new development of a sequel...

I am now 30, and trainwreck or not I am going to see how the game that took almost half my life to make has turned out :p

Thats because it uses first gen engines, the unreal 2 engine, similar to Bioshock.

It doesnt look bad at all either. Its no where near as good as unreal engine 3 of course, but what can you do with a game that was ruined by 3DRealms over-ambition? Also, there is only 1 multi platform game that has managed to impress graphically across all consoles since the next gen consoles were released, and thats crysis 2, and even that was watered down a lot due to the limitattions of the 360. If you were expecting gearbox to go in and completely rewrite the game using a different engine think again.

Either way, anyone whole played Duke3D on DOS back in the Windows 95 days will be buying it. Its effectively a 10 year old game with a much better graphics engine, and yet the gameplay is still much better than garbage like CoD.

I'd love to be able to slap all the people that bitch and moan about graphics, its the gameplay and story that counts. Brainwashed CoD inbreds >.<

/rant over.

but it is duke nukem and that counts for a lot if you are over 28

Dunno, I'm 29, placed D3D loads in my teens, online, network, loved it.
Forever looks like it's going to suck hard, and not in the manner Duke would like.

as a well trodden duke junkie from D3d days...cant wait for this, everything doesnt have to be 8**** graphics... gaming is just supposed to be a laugh and just enjoy and have fun... Can't wait !!!
#13
Its all about the gameplay Baby!

Forget the graphics this is a retro look game with oodles of one liners and laugh out loud comments!

"Multiplayer Like No Other: Duke re-envisions classic modes of play in his own hilarious and humiliating way. Shrink your opponent and squash him with your foot. Freeze and shatter him. Attach explosives to his back. Roll a pipe bomb between his legs, or just frag him old-fashioned with a rocket"

Now that sounds like fun! :p8)

I hope it gets the critical panning it deserves.
The people buying it are as foolish as the parents that buy licenced tat for their kids to play.

Played Duke Nukem back in the day on my Pentium PC! My 5 year old son witnessed me battle an end of level boss when over the speakers came "I am going to rip off your head and s*** down your neck". Oops. Well he went to school and quoted that to his teacher. I had to go to the school and explain myself and NO i didn't use any Duke quotes!

I got my copy today and I cannot wait to finish work and get some RnR !

Will wait till its £14.99 on steam on a couple of months and then get it.
Remember getting burnt by the hype behind battlecruiser 3000 AD and how that took 10 years to make, I'm happy to wait a few more months. Got mass effect 2 to finish still.

Hehe, I think just about all of the nostalgists know it's going to be mediocre at best. Hardly any game has come out of development hell smelling of roses and Duke is a pretty exceptional case.

But it's been a running joke for so long now, since even before the internet was opened to the masses, and it's one I want to see through to the end :)

The rest of you can wait until two week's time, where this will in all likelyhood drop in price like a lead balloon.

This

Been playing it on PS3 for a few hours now

The GFX aren't too bad but its not Duke as we know him, different dev teams, different engines etc etc & the fact he holds 2 weapons & regenerates health..... No thank you

Don't bother buying it, play it somewhere else before you do

No it'll be about £4 in a few months.

So this game isn't that great? shame I'll prob still try it anyway. I wish they'd do a similar thing with Blood on PC, that game rocked!

No way that'll arrive tomorrow, took me 2 weeks to get my preorder. xD

Well, I got the collector's edition delivered on PC today and haven't been able to play it yet thanks to Steam being a whiny cow about it not being released. So I had a flick through the manual, which encouragingly is only 4 pages long and refers primarily to the Xbox controls. Along with what you've said (the first legitimate complaint about this game in the thread in my opinion) we're off to a great start people!
