I was going to say that if anyone was going to buy this because they thought they'd missed the ending when they were younger, then don't bother.

As stated, the show was cancelled before the story was resolved:x

excellent price for a great tv show. Along with star fleet (coming to DVD in Feb) DD was one of my most favourite shows in the early 80s.

Right, The episode Requiem wasn't made but the script is out there.
Go to the Michael Reeve (the Dungeons & Dragons writer) website to read it:

the finel script does exist and is a radio show, that you can find i think.

I believe that is an urban myth. It was discussed on many a forum with people saying they knew of someone that had seen the final episode, read the final episode or listened to the final episode. someone even fooled loads of people for a while by making his own final script and passing it off as genuine.

The producers of the show have maintained from day one that no such episode ever existed in any form though

Right then, the 9th of Feb is set in my calender. Rep added to you for making my year:thumbsup:

There is a final episode, written but not made.

Michael Reaves was a writer for the show (I believe he wrote 7 episodes) and was asked to write a story that would wrap it all up.

More info here:

http://www.michaelreaves.com/requiem_preface.htm

Also, the American Dungeons & Dragons DVD includes "a radio show-style presentation of the unaired final episode “Requiem” - which is probably where the confusion about it being a radio show came about.

Not sure if this radio presentation is on the UK disks though, as it just mentions a "Requiem" featurette on the cover.

There was a final episode written but not made. It was written by Michael Reaves, who wrote 7 other episodes that were produced. More info here:-

http://www.michaelreaves.com/requiem_preface.htm

Also, the US edition of the DVDs contains a "Radio show-style presentation of the unaired final episode 'Requiem' featuring select original voice cast members" which is probably where the confusion about there being a radio play comes from.

From Wikipedia: "There are differences between both releases. The US DVD release is notable for having a specially created "radio play" of the final episode that was never made (this is not available on the UK DVD). Likewise a booklet was created for the US release which the UK one does not have. The US release, however, is also notable for having had some music alterations for some of the episodes for copyright reasons, or so Disney claims. This has been done by replacing the original score for the affected episodes with various instrumental tracks from other episodes of the series plus a few from other sources. The UK release however does not suffer from this and all of the original music scores are still intact in the episodes. Why the UK is not affected by the change, but the US version is, is a subject of debate."

you have the 2006 boxset? its on the DVD-ROM see here, at the bottom of the page http://www.tvdvdreviews.com/dungeons.html

I also love on the US box set that they show the original opening titles for season two - hadn't seen those for YEARS!! When the series was re-mastered someone mistakenly put the same opening titles on all 27 episodes, even though it had changed on season two. Great stuff, takes me back!!
#27
It isn't on mine but I agree now that the scriptwriter, Michael Reeves DID write a script for the end of the third series, that was never turned into an episode.

The script is here: http://www.michaelreaves.com/pdf/requiem_sec.pdf.

It wasn't meant to be the end of the show though, and it still doesn't end the show as it doesn't let you find out if they did decide to go back or stay.

But i'm big enough to admit that a series ending did exist on paper, even if it went no further than that:oops:

This is Michael's explanation:

"Until I received several pieces of email recently, the combined gist of which is that there are rumors abounding on the Net and the Web about a last episode of the show, either scripted and never produced, or produced and never aired, in which we learn that the kids actually died on the rollercoaster that supposedly took them into the Realm, and that they are, in fact, imprisoned in Hell and being tormented with a complex fantasy (as if just being in Hell wouldn't be torment enough) by the Devil masquerading as Dungeon Master, and do I have any words to share with the masses about this issue?

Yes: Bushwah, poppycock and balderdash.

There is no such episode, as even a moment's rational thought would reveal. D&D was a very dark, edgy show for its time -- sort of the Gargoyles of the Eighties -- and credit must go to Judy Price, then president of Childrens' Programming for CBS, for taking a chance on it and not playing it safe and slapping another Care Bears clone on the air instead. We took the show about as far as you could go on kids' TV at the time; as an example, the script for The Dragons' Graveyard (a second season episode I wrote), in which the kids contemplate killing Venger in order to find a way home, caused a battle royale with Broadcast Standards and Practices. The chances of an episode with a plot like the one described above even making it past an initial three-line pitch were -- and still are -- about as likely as Superman snorting Kryptonite.

if memory serves me .... ive not seen it in over 15 years..... they do actually get back to the fairground, but Venger follows them through .

their weapons dont work on earth so they are forced to go back and Venger chases them

it's been a few years since i last watched it, and the ex wife took the box set. How i remember it was that they went back in one episode but it turned out out to be an alternate reality and not their own so they went back to the realm.

Any other people got a different version?

I watched the last episode of Starfleet the other week, albeit a very grainy copy. That show got weirder as it went along:-D I'm buying that when it's out.

Spookily enough I just looked up Terrahawks today too. £34 for the complete collection on DVD:thumbsup:

£34 for terrahawks eh?
Apparently Starfleet is Public Domain video, so if any of you guys are interested drop me a pm and i may post as a For Sale item at the same price i paid for the 4 DVD's + P&P.

As for Dungeons & Dragons, Don't do it they never recorded a final episode though there is a manuscript for it which i believe may be recorded as an Audio only episode but to be honest, this is one series best remembered as a memory, the animation is really poor and will just spoil some good childhood memories.

tah for that.
Starfleet is pre-order at £29 as the lowest price, which is obscene for a public domain recording (no copyrights).
I paid half of that and am very happy with the quality.

I have definetely seen them get back to the fairground. They rush into their parents arms saying how sorry they are for being away from home for ages, only to be told that they had only been away for the duration of the fairground ride.
