Indeed cannot say how much of a good buy this. Ah well we 2 have a bargain :)

Has a rotary volume control, which is good IMHO :-)

Other controls are slightly fiddly, but no worse than many other UK DAB radios at *much* higher prices. Although this radio has 8 presets, only presets 1-4 are available at the touch of single button. According to the supplied manual, the presets can be different for FM and DAB (so each preset can apparently be used twice).

Sound quality on Radio 3 (high bit-rate MP2) via the stereo jack is awesome if you have good DAB reception. Internal speaker is acceptable but nothing special.

Nice on/off switch. Powers up to last station very quickly (assuming that DAB signal is available).

Running mine on NiMH batteries - not sure of battery life yet, but at least 2 hours so far;-)

If you want a cheap portable battery powered DAB / FM radio, then you can't go wrong at GBP 15.

This offer is only on till Sunday 11th May.

Saw this in the Mirror today

Good price

My only criticism: not as nice to look at as the recent Matsui one from Currys and looks a bit cheap.

However, being white it's ideal for the kitchen or bathroom.

A bargain nonetheless, well worth £15!

As an aside, what does everyone think of "Bird FM" or whatever it's called?

It might sound silly, but I find it really relaxing to have on in the kitchen. I'm almost fooled into believing I live in the country! Well worth fifteen quid for "Bird FM" alone..

I tested the battery life on DAB today.

Tuned to radio 3 on medium volume, the radio ran for about 12 hours on battery power. Batteries were qty. 6 Energiser 2500mAH NiMH rechargeables (bought from Tesco years ago, as another bargain).

So the DAB is perfectly useable for occasional battery use, especially if you are using rechargeables.

is it stero or mono?
#11
Saw this in the paper today. Any half decent DAB has got to be good for £15. Voted HOT.

This will be mono by the way as it only has the one speaker like all "kitchen radios".
#12
Does anybody have a picture of the radio?
#13
wish i had an asda near me, been after a cheap dab radio for a while now
#14
will it fit in a tool box????

It's called Birdsong and I think it's only on DAB. It might not last long though...

I think that the 3.5mm earphone jack output is stereo on this radio. The internal speaker is indeed mono.

And right you are too. I forgot about that!

I really would recommend anyone who has never used a DAB radio before to get one of these they're better than the old system.

I bought a reconditioned Pure "kitchen radio" just like this one about 9 months ago and that cost £30 so this really is a top bargain.

High Bit Rate MP2? Is that what most channels broadcast in? I heard it was 128k MP3??

Are you a Leicester fan??

They are not the full price hence the post of the saving :whistling:

Picked up one of these for my utility room/outdoor/gardening work today. I have a few other more expensive DAB radios in the house and was looking for a cheap one for the purposes I have outlined. First impressions are that this radio is excellent for my purposes - very well chuffed with this. Thanks for the posting which pointed me in the right direction. For £15 I can't see how anyone can complain - certainly based on my first impressions of aesthetics, features and sound.

the same bird twittering on all the time...

"One avid twitcher has noted 12 different types of bird, including the chirruping of a swallow and the scratchy warble of a spotted flycatcher."

The majority of DAB stereo stations use 128kbit/s MP2...The mono stations use a variety of bit rates: 48, 64, 80 and 96 kbit/s!

Absolutely brilliant DAB. It's better than the sony one I bought for my mum at Christmas. I wish I had bought two. Thanks very much heat and rep added for you.
#38
looks like it has not ended then??

If people can still get these can you let me know so I can take of the EXPIRED bit.

These are def still on sale - I got one last night from the ASDA in Charlton but there was only one left after I bought mine!

Problem is I can get good reception in my flat in Woolwich - but sweet FA in my office in Tower Hill today. I don't understand this - I'm in the middle of London, surely reception should be perfect!

Does anyone have any tips for getting a signal?

Or is anyone having similar problems?
