We've yet to have a day this year in the UK where its worth using one.

I haven't voted because these sorts of devices kill the planet unless you have a server room to keep cool or something but for any1 who does find themselves too hot here is a cheap air con unit - get a bottle of frozen water and stick it in front of a fan, you have yourself cool moving air.

Stupid post - REALLY stupid in fact..
Firstly, this is about bargain purchases - not nonsense ecological protests or judgements over proper use of electricity.
Secondly, the even more stupid comment about the ice (which was I suspect supposed to be funny but wasn't given the fact it was offered as an ecologic alternative) shows total ignorance regarding the way ice is made (DOH - same process as air-con). I expect you save the planet by drinking unchilled drinks and cold tea?
OK - off the soap-box and off to the shops with my climate control turned up in the car (just in protest )

On my planet we need electricity to freeze water and power fans, otherwise that'd almost be a great idea.

You do obviously realise Hot UK deals is hosted in a data centre somewhere in the world don't you? They require huge amounts of air conditioning 24 7 365. So it's OK for you to preach to people not to buy this item for home use on an website, which by default is using huge amounts of power to stop it's server going pop. By posting on the internet you are by default endorsing the massive amounts of power consumption used by data centres all over the world today.

Not even to mention the following items that require air conditioning and or power along the way to the data centre.
a) Your home PC requires electricity to run it. Unless you are running on hamster power in your home.
b) You are using ADSL or Cable for your connection. Either way which ever backbone network is used to get the data centre will go through multiple amplifier huts, POP (points of presence) and quite a few data centers. Each and every one of these hops requires air conditioning, just so you can post it's "damaging to use a home AC unit".

And yes I do know what I am talking about, as I work fo a company which has a worldwide internet / data network with multiple data centres located all over the world. Trust me you would not like to see our companies worldwide electricity bill. Even just one data centres electricity bill would make your eyes water.

So they only kill the planet if not used in a server room? I didn't realise that server rooms were imbued with special powers like that.

To be fair though, server rooms are enclosed environments and it doesn't take too much effort to reduce the temperature of air inside the room.

If you keep the doors shut in your house when using one of these devices, it'll be fine. If you leave the doors open, it will attempt to cool your entire house, and it won't work as well. At that point, you might as well just open your fridge/freezer doors and use those to reduce the temperature of your house.

Agreed they are enclosed environments.

That being said please don't think when they are at required room temperature that the AC is turned off. They run 24 7 all be it with different loading depending on whether it's day / night, summer / winter, humid / dry air etc etc etc. Data centres require constant cooling due to the massive amounts of heat produced by mutiple servers running 24 7 365 to host sites like this.

Can we get back to the deal :whistling:

Has anyone found one available other than the OP

Has anyone else been able to get one? Not voting either way at the moment.

Just got off the phone to my local branch in Folkestone, and reserved for £49, now only 1 left. Will be collecting tonight. Now voted hot and rep added. Great find Badesha. :-)

dudes, I wasn't having a go - just offering an alternative for cool air. Most people have freezers in their homes working already - no need to buy an extra device to freeze a bottle of water.

Just sayin' the UK ain't all that hot. You guys make me laugh though :) - rep added

I think I now know why all the hate. I asked some1 (yup I'm that lifeless) and they can see the wording might be preachy. It was in the execution of what I was saying as when I've given that tip before, people have like it and given it the thumbs up. So I am rewording to:

I haven't voted because these things eat electricity. I spend a lot of time in Florida and when I want to keep cool but not turn the air up I put on a fan and frozen bottle of water in front of it and it keeps the air cooled and moving (thus saving on money). I can't see these being of use in the UK because we don't get that many hot days - especially this summer.

Better? Man, you guys are hard to please

Guess it depends were in the UK you live. Here in the south there were a number of nights when it was too hot to sleep. This unit might not be needed now but will be next year. The dehumidify function can be used anytime of year. :pirate:

Got one in the big store at Watchmoor Park in Camberley. At least one other there, still labelled as £150. Absolute bargain!

Opinions are not about right & wrong nor is it about good & bad. Viewpoints are about activity such that those who are immune to reactions can exploit those shackled to their hindsight, insight and foresight not to mention the sight from where the sun never shines. As for viewpoints, here's another ….

The person who is trying to make sense of waste, especially irrational waste which is a function of being "under" or "over" whatever that is under consideration, must know that people cannot be taught, we have to learn through experience and experience depends on the desire, be it positve or negative. When two energy levels meet, the lower level will always try to extract from the higher level.

This place is about bargains - trying to get something for nothing or else as little as possible. The "energy level" of those in such a state of desire is not about anything else. When such a mindset is presented with a mirror that reflects guilt, the result will either be guilt or its other-face/alter-ego, anger. It's like being nagged constantly about being a good boy/girl - the pet pastime of preachers-*um-worshippers. Over 'ere, the worship is called "The Bargain", not "Right or Wrong".

One's care, love and all the fluffy sympathetic stuff is not about preaching, oka saving, whose duty is to collect worship, but about one's "level" and the point about individuality is that it is. Too much heart leads to lunacy and too little heart leads to idiocy. Sympathy, oka too much heart, is not compassion because compassionh has no judgement other than to assist where required and not where possible. Realise that there is no way that a chimp could be made aware of, say, arithmetic and the meaning of compassion dawns.

Changes only manifest through an experience like, say,"Credit Crunch", high unemployment, pandemics and so forth. Why? Becaise the "majority", known variously as, "The Democratics", "The Socialistics", The Idiotics", "The Lunatics", "The Stupid", "The Dumb", "The Clever", "The Cunning", "The Banker", "The Politician", and much more, are only "In It" for themselves. How so? Because for starters, no one breathes for another and secondly, most do not know why they exist, followed by the fact that awareness depends on being conscious and consciousness of a bargain is different from being conscious of compassion. Especially when a person has no inkling of when the hand of compassion will strike other than that it will. In such a state, most would extract their ounce of fame, fortune and immortality before "That patsy wakes up".

The heart is not ours to offer to, say, saviours nor worshippers of all guises. It is there to maintain the flow of Love, oka Reality, should one be in such a state/level. Without judgement, oka anger-guilt, greed-fear or masculinity-femininity. Afterall chimps and humans can co-exist so long as the humans don't offer the chimps, their heart or their intellect. Remember, before reacting, it is better for one's heart or brain, to take a deeper breath [than possible] and then gaze attentively into a mirror/an-innocent, whatsoever or whomsoever that mirror may be - and then be off for another bargain. And let no one impede through the mechanisms of judgement for the judgement is not real - it's only somefink trasmitted through some medium - unless the message struck home in which case, learn to be compassionate and not sympathetic-indifferent to oneself first and then one will be able to, perhaps, love others too - but watch out for those blinded by the religions of science, faith and idealogy. Happy hunting ....

awww gunsNbutter, that almost made me cry ;-)

I have nothing but love anyway - from the start which is why the haters got rep already. I hate to mislead or preach which is why I came back to this thread to set the record straight and then was shouted down again so came back a 3rd time. But you are right, it is a hot deal (tho still not voting it) but even in my original post I gave a money saving tip which people hated. But again, you're right the experiences of each of us gives us different points of views and words on the web are void of emotion so you can miss half the point.

I'm buddhist and we accept other people's religion and wouldn't hate on it - my rapport of saying 'kills the planet' instead of 'eats electricity' to mean means the same thing but I had to take another person point of view to see how I myself hate.

Reminds me, I was at the local motorbike store today and I said 'sweet' when I mean 'nice' or 'ok' or 'cool' and they looked at me gone out. I really am the odd one out aren't I?

*leaves thread knowing where he is not wanted*

Leaving a fridge door open will only ever increase the temperature of the room.
