Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's bestselling manga DEATH NOTE, has already spawned an internationally successful anime series, and now its become a bona fide film franchise.

In the first offering we meet Light Yagami (Tatsuya Fujiwara, BATTLE ROYALE), a rich, good looking, hard-working student. Light's life changes forever when a Shinigami death god accidentally drops his notebook down into the human world and into Light's hands. The thing about this notebook is that whoever's name is written down inside it... dies. Now the death games begin as Light decides to use his new power to rid the world of evil.

In its sequel, THE LAST NAME, the plot follows on from the previous film, with Light Yagami still attempting to evade suspicion for the 'death note' killings. DEATH NOTE II: THE LAST NAME continues the blend of action, thriller, and horror that the original began.

I love these films. Heat added.

Hot, they did well with these considering how much story they had as source material. They have their own charm, think I'll watch them again this week.

Awesome movie. :)

There was a really good deal on the anime full boxset long time ago and missed that - anyone know good deals on the anime version?

Is this movie in addition to the anime or is it essentially a summary of the anime?

I have recently ordered the anime. Just wondering whether I should get this as well?

Summary.

Personally I prefer the films to the anime but I haven't really been into anime since I was a teenager if I'm honest.

Hi - not seen the anime so can't comment on that - but the movies are based on the manga books.

Infinately inferior to the anime. Just rewrites the story so that the whole second part of the series never happened.

L is nowhere near as awesome.
Light is no where near as CRAZY
The actors are annoying

And the PAL release of these films doesn't come with the ocean groups genuinely good english dub just japanese subtitles. Lame!

On a positive note red hot chilli peppers lend theme music to the films.

THE MOVIES ARE NOT BASED ON THE MANGA THEY REWRITE ALLOT. THERE IS A NEW AMERICAN REMAKE WHICH IS BASED ON THE MANGA COMING NEXT YEAR.

P.S WATCH THE ANIME, IT IS EPIC!

Anime set is back at The Hut for £17.85

I've not seen the last name, but the first one was a pretty good live action movie.
The fact that it changes the anime / manga plot could be a great thing, because their ending sucked big time.

I would personally get both, watched all the anime first and then the films. The anime is much better however I still love the films.

As mentioned in this post though L is much better in the anime and you see much more of his weird ways and again with Light, he is crazy in the anime.

Why is having Red Hot Chilli Peppers on a Japanese film a good thing? In my opinion it ruins the authenticity of the series, and subs over dubs any day.
