Both series of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchants triumphant Extras are united in this box, and with nothing more than a Yuletide special planned beyond these episodes, its a great chance to catch up with this star-packed, offbeat programme.

Unlike their previous The Office, Gervais and Merchant have delivered a less accessible but no less rewarding programme with Extras. It starts with Andy Millman, a background artist, sitting in the shadows of a variety of different shows, before, in the second series, he gets his own spot in the limelight.

Whats helped characterise the series, of course, has been the continued presence of star names in cameo roles. These range from Hollywood bigshots--Samuel L Jackson, Kate Winslet and Harry Pott.., sorry, Daniel Radcliffe--and continue through to familiar faces from British TV--step forward Les Dennis, Ross Kemp and Barry from EastEnders. Most of the plaudits, though, rightly go in the direction of the splendid Ashley Jensen, who emerges as the most likeable and rounded of all the shows characters.

Theres little danger, it seems, that Extras will dethrone The Office from the top of its creators CVs, but thanks to its strong writing, its measured mix between melancholy and amusement, and some superb performances, it more than carves a very strong niche for itself.

Sorry, (and I know I'm going to get flamed), but I still think thats about £6.96 too much... Why anyone thinks Ricky Gervais is funny is beyond me...
#3
I hope you didn't vote. You can't vote a deal simply because you won't use a product (i.e. watch).
#4
A true gem of a comedy and better than The Office in my opinion. A real bargain too.

Possibly because he IS actually funny. Who do you thinks funny then? Channel 4 'talk show' hosts excluded.

Already got both of these but good price.

Agreed. This guy is not funny in the slightest, people only laugh at his programmes because they think they have to.

You are an idiot, how can you announce such a daft statement. People laugh at his programmes & stand up because they enjoy that style of comedy. You may not enjoy him - have your opinions but dont assume everyone else is in the same boat.

All this jealousy - and so close to Christmas too! I had done a search before I posted and honestly couldn't find this on the site, although I acknowledge that it did appear in another Amazon post that is now on the front page, and which I have since voted hot.

People should be pleased that my post has brought this to the masses.

We're supposed to be bargain hunters and stick together - not bicker!

I think everyone entitled to their opinion. I don't think he's funny in the least, if you fall off your chair every time he opens his mouth then thats your right.

How the hell he managed to get his name 4th or 5th in the credits in Stardust just astounds me considering he was on screen for little over 5 minutes and was the same character he always is...

No, I didn't vote cold.

I find, and don't wanna get flamed here, that alot of people from the south find Gervais very funny where as people from the North don't find him quite as funny. I'm from the North and find Peter Kay and Phoenix Nights much funnier. But to each his own I suppose.

Im from the south and can't stand Peter Kay, so you could be right. Roy Brown is pretty universal though ;-)

I am from the south and find both ricky and peter funny, although gervais is better in my opinion. Great deal, shame I bought series 2 for £6 from HMV the other day :(

Yeah but you're in Essex so you're borderline :p

...."erm.... personal opinion" has anyone heard of it...... if everybody liked the same it would be boring, which is why some love him and some hate him, this opinion is shared at home as well.

Just don't push your own opinion down someone else's through thinking that is what they really wish to hear. Share it, just don't inisist that it's right or wrong regardless of other people

Cheapest for both series together separately is under fifteen quid,so this is a bargain!

Class !

Oh and for the record I think Peter Kay is at least on a par with Gervais.

Comedy like music though is personal and has been said above people's preferences should be respected.

That's of course unless they like Jim Davidson or Bernard Manning in which case they should be taken to a padded cell after having their finger and toenails individually ripped off. :w00t::whistling::p:)

Go on with yer, nowt wrong with Jim.
