Brand new dyson air multiplier fan with both cooling and heating options. Best price it's been for a while at £180 - I just bought a 2nd hand one for just shy of £200 (feel free to laugh at me, I can take it).

Actually a fan's motor requires electricity to work, which will generate heat, so a fan actually warms the air.
What it does do is increase evaporation of sweat off your skin making you feel cooler.

Guess it's definitely gonna get hot ;)

These are the old models. The new equivalent is the AM05, though they are around £300!

That doesn't apply to these models in the outlet, only to an older batch sold via retail.

It blows air around the room, but does not make the air colder (no fan can).

It's still a noisy fan/heater with a £179.99 price tag. I would only buy it if they can make it a lot quieter than normal fan, currently it's not that much different.

If you use a fan on a hot day, you'll feel its cooling power. It might not be technically cooling in the same way as an air-con unit but it does cool the air.

The new range released this year are all quieter, but very expensive.

A fan creates a draught or breeze, which can be refreshing, but does not lower the air temperature.

Well, I tried the AM05 in the shop, if you said it's quieter than AM04, I definitely won't be able to cope with the noise. Even I like gadgets, but I will wait for the much improved version.

Yep the noise issue is what puts me off buying one. They're meant to be ok on the lowest setting but then you can barely feel the breeze!

£180 for a fan? I'm with Which? on this - ten times the price of a normal fan, with very little difference to show for it. oO

I told my other half about my purchase and she was not happy to say the least, so I have had to request a cancelation..... but secretly I hope they still end up sending it.

imagine if it came with an apple logo. This would be even more desirable for some!!!! maybe apple and dyson should team up!!

Unless, of course, the draught or breeze allows circulation of air from other areas that are cooler?

Like most Dyson products; over engineered solutions to simple problems. Doesn't do anything you couldn't do with a 15 quid fan and a 20 quid heater.

I sleep with a fan on every night (I know I'm weird). I'm always tempted by one of these but even using it all year round I can't justify the cost really. Also I do get fed up with having to Hoover my fan due to the dust build up!

I saw that guy driving past me today, I can't say it's a good thing using an iPad whilst driving, almost as bad as wearing a Superdry jacket and he was doing both.

Go on then Einstein another question, if you have a fridge in a room and open it's door will the room temperature rise, fall or stay the same? We did this at college but I cant remeber the answer :p

It'd stay the same or get slightly warmer. The fridge is a heat exchanger so the heat coming out the mesh on the back will counteract the cold coming out the front. It might get slightly warmer due to the heat generated by the pump mechanism.

Personally I use a bowl of ice cubes in front of a standard fan. Cheap as chips and actually cools the room down nicely!

You can't class Rolex in that. They are an investment. I got a Rolex when I was 20, it cost £1836. I have been offered £7200 for it 2nd hand and 20 years later!
