£250 for a fan / heater? Wow! I get the brand affiliation and design appreciation but on functionality and practicality, surely this is expensive? For the purpose of the post, yes it's much better than their standard price but in comparison to what you can as an alternative, I personally find this expensive. Not voting either way, but just wanted to express my thoughts, sorry if I offended anyone (included Mr Dyson lol).

I'm sure (multi-millionaire) Mr Dyson will be Ok :D

Tend to agree on pricing, but I believe these are amazing pieces of kit - silent and efficient (30% less energy than a fan heater)

I guess its the Lada (do they still exist!!) / Bentley debate - both get you from A - B, but the 'user experience' is different!!

Oh totally agree! I can afford one of these (even at full price) but simply refuse to pay these prices when conventional products do it for a fraction of the price. But you're absolutely right, it's extremely quiet. Just wish they had priced this in a more realistic way for the masses, if they had then Dyson products could realistically be in every household in the UK.

Totally agree but I must add..... Yes R&D is in this country. Manufacture was moved from this country to the far east as a cost saving measure. All that's happened for us mere mortals is.... Zilch, nana, bug gerall no signs of the cost savings being passed on.
So Mr Dyson I will never buy your overpriced stuff.
Heat added as for a Dyson it's a good deal

This really is an excellent piece of kit, especially when using in rooms that aren't frequently used or to provide a boost of heat. Bought one at the start of the year, refurbished from Dyson, failed within a week, they did collect and refund promptly though. My advice would be to buy new, and buy from John Lewis.

Just to note, in terms of build quality, i actually prefer AEG over Dyson.

Do they not use the same energy as a standard electric heater??

Yes. All electric heaters are exactly the same efficiency.

I was very surprised and disappointed when I tried one of these out in an office I was temporarily using. I was expecting something stunningly quiet, but when turned up beyond the minimum setting it was actually louder than a conventional fan. If the styling is crucial then buy one. If it's function you're after, buy a standard fan and separate heater for a fraction of the cost.

So they're great if you don't need to rely on them ;)

Hmm, Dyson say otherwise, but not sure if it's jut PR spin (excuse the pun)

Energy Efficient **

AM09 uses approximately 30% less energy to heat the whole room than other fan heaters.* And in summer, it can lower energy bills by up to 20% when it’s used with air conditioning.**

All electric heaters turn 100% of the electricity into heat.

What Dyson seems to be claiming is that their heater blows heat into the whole room better than any other heater.
This may be true, but it does mean that the area nearest the source will be less warm than with an alternative heater. For most this is a negative quality; the benefit of a portable heater is that you can keep it near where you need it most. Why heat the corner of the room where no-one is?

"Ha,ha,ha,ha,ha....." Do you hear that? - It's Dyson on his way to the bank.

I thought they were ordinary fan heaters, but by hiding the fan in the base, somehow people think it is magical?
And therefore charge a magical amount of money, remind you of the Emperors new clothes.
