We need a new vacuum cleaner, should I go for the Samsung or the more expensive Dyson? Or any other suggestions?

Tip:The price for this item at the moment is full price, but if you reserve it today for instore collection, you are given until the end of tuesday to collect. As you pay the price instore at the time of collection you are effectively reserving it at the sale price, but in advance of other sale hunters. This obviously applies to any other item in the sale for instore collection:santa: .

We were looking to replace our Dyson this week and I looked through other threads in the forum for advice. The advice was a cylinder not an upright and of the cylinders Bosch & Miele came out really well. I decided on the Bosch BSG82200GB Ergomaxx Professional Cylinder and hunted for the best price. Its £125 from amazon but £114.99 from electric shopping inc delivery, and they do quidco. I ordered it 18th and it arrived on Friday. Lovely powerful (but quiet) little machine with filters and large capacity bag (there is also a bagless version).

Good luck :santa:

I looked at the which report for cleaners and Dyson was the best at cleaning (except pet hairs) BUT Which did not recommend them because of their very poor reliability.

Bosch, Miele were the tops but a Samsung model did well. We bought the Samsung mainly because an online outlet had the previous model for 2/3s off. Works a great deal better than our previous Electrolux. If using it without a bag you have to clean the filters more often.
Cheers

Forgot to mention there were some Vax pet cleaners on offer in Netto - price was supposed to be good...

I have gone for the vax offer from argos

A full 5 year warrenty included with this deal should cover the reliability issues.

Thanks Ray. Voted hot.

Welcome back by the way :santa:

There are six of those, Philips, 3x Tefal, Breville and Morphy Richards [half price one]

id recommend a Miele S5260 Cat & Dog, i don't have one, but it will certainly be my next vacuum when my current Dyson dies
#12
For what it's worth, Sebo are also very good.

just to add, brought this dyson for my mum for xmas about 4 weeks ago, it was £149.99 reduced from £249.99 so i thought it was a really good deal, then once i saw the price go upto £249.99 again i thought great what a bargain i got. however now it seems they only put the price back up to £249.99 so that they could claim it as half price after christmas. i think they are very sneaky, but then again £124.99 for a brand new dyson and 5 year warranty is quite a good deal. i dont have the warranty card to hand but if i remeber right something is excluded (isnt it always), but i cant remeber what lol.

Thats the ones, they have a seperate water reservoir. You've mention the Morphy Richards one but it's a litte on the pricey side, anything similar but cheaper.
Thanks

Sorry :) Only just got to this. The others are more expensive than the Morphy Richards unfortunately :santa:

We've had our Dyson for about 2 years and no probs whatsoever. Best purchase we ever made - it's incredible.
if i remeber right something is excluded (isnt it always), but i cant remeber what
I think you'll find it's probably breakdowns and mechanical faults that are excluded, as with most guarantees

Thanks for the extra info biglugs :santa:

Well I'm picking one of these up on Tuesday. My other half hates the bulky Dyson upright and as its also on its last legs so this offer was too good to refuse. I just hope it lasts a few years (bad reputation for reliability...)

Depends on how long you want or expect a vac cleaner to last.If you are just thinking 5 years, then this an excellent buy.We have had 2 dysons over the years and although as posters have pointed out, they are not the most reliable in the world, their guarantees are brilliant. The 2 we have had have been quite reliable, but we have had a lot of breakage of plastic parts. We have had replacement wands, suction tubes, new power cable and other smaller parts and accesories. Each claim has been authorised with no problem whatsoever. If one is purchased with only a one or two year guarantee,i would thouroughly reccomend buying an extende warranty if you are like us and give it some welly with it's useage. :santa:

Bought from Argos Straiton today. loads in stock currently.:)

Picked mine up today, finding it hard to get used too as always had a upright. Did anyone who got one get the 5 year guarantee leaflet with it. They said it was in the box but theres only a 2 year one and you have to pay extra for the 5 years.

They're both bagless, no?

Anyone know the actual difference between the Base and Origin?

Argos appears to be the only company which sell the former, and they discount it regularly, making the 'original' price of £250 look a bit suspect.

(The Origin is widely available for well under £200)
#28
Don't know the difference but i just received my Origin dyson today and must say it really does suck. Hoovered 2 days ago using my 10+ year old hoover and the dyson managed to pick up a lot of crap. And we're not a messy family but im sure the dyson will disprove that always.

Came with 5 Years gurantee.

From Dyson website:
"Your Guarantee

All new Dyson vacuum cleaners purchased after 27th July 2006 now receive a Dyson 5 year guarantee*. We’re certain it’s the only part of your Dyson you won’t put to good use. But if you do, just ask and we’ll try to fix the problem over the phone. If we can’t, we’ll aim to send a Dyson engineer to see you within 3 working days.

To register your guarantee on-line or to find out about our terms and conditions please click on the link below.

* Excludes DC16 Root 6™. This machine comes with a Dyson 2 year guarantee."

Great product for £126, easy to put together, just plug and click-in. Sounds like a harrier jumpjet but you get use to it. Great accessories, 3 different types of brush heads, for curtans, sofa, hard floor. Coord is long, probably more than 3m, havent meassured. 5/5

Hi, ive jus bought this dyson for my mum from argos. ive got the dyson dc05 bought over 6yrs ago, still working. broke down twice only, as i extended the guarantee to 7years. first breadown, a new power cable was replaced and second breakdown the motor was changed, 8month ago now. i also had a few parts break off, all replaced free of charge too, so ive not paid any repairs as everything was covered, would recommand dyson to anyone.
