apparently very good but only 6 mins running time from a 3 hour charge. They look huge too.

That's not the same product.

This is the DC16 Animal that one is the Standard DC16 which does retail for around £70/£80

I love mine, had it since Christmas. The 6 minutes does me fine. I am owned by a Siberian Husky, who sheds 8 times his weight in fur twice a year, and enjoys sitting on my stairs. In my time before owning this spangly bit of kit I would be on the stairs with my normal hoover and a rubber bristled brush thing. It used to take me up to an hour to get the fur up and gone, this takes me less than a charge now. It's simple, easy and does the job well. The only thing I don't really like much is the butt-ugly wall hanger. Seems like the oddest design, but hey it holds it!

only six mins charge?? that is so not worth it....
#9
i have one, got it for the car.

The suction isn't amazing and it only lasts like 5 minutes on a full charge. Not worth the money.
#10
doesnt sound worth the buy at all, £80 dysan seems a lot for 6 mins be cheaper to buy selloptape and wrap it round your hands....lol
#11
6 minutes is that all :?
#12
3 hour charge for only 6 minutes runtime.....
That is rubbish.. i'd have expected better from Dyson.

I think there's a new handheld Dyson coming out within the next couple of months with a much more efficient motor. So the prices of these should be coming down.
#15
This is an excellent price for the animal - I've just paid £119. for mine but it was worth it. Yes it only has 6 mins battery life but that's more than enough time for me to do the stairs and bits and bobs.
I had the ordinary one before I got the animal and that was rubbish at picking up dog hair but the animal is fantastic

Sounds rubbish.

Yes the DC31 will be out soon with variable suction strength to extend time to about 10 mins.

Saw it in a John Lewis for £79 today - should include their normal service if it breaks too.
#20
why people bother with Dyson is beyond me ; poor quality Chinese manufactured machines
#21
best handheld I've had. Perfect for whats it's meant for - quick vacuum around a room. 6 mins is actually a long time unless you want to vacuum the whole house. I've never yet needed it for the full 6 mins. Looks big but it's not heavy at all.
#22
Smaller than they look in the picture.
I had a go with one in Currys this afternoon.

Was that the Dyson DC16 Animal or the Dyson DC16? The Standard DC16 is smaller than its big brother, hence the name "Animal"?

Six minutes of use, being so darn big and looking like a Nerf gun.

To me, that's rubbish.

LOVE MINE, the animal holds a longer charge than the basic model... great for keeping on top of things in between big cleans (i am a male). i own both basic and the animal models and wouldnt buy a basic but will be buying a second animal for caravan, well worth it imo

DC16 Animal

Specification
Dimensions 225 by 350 by 110mm (HxWxD)
Weight 1.80 kg
Suction power 36 airwatts (constant)
Bin capacity 0.8 litres

DC31 £149.99 pre order (I think the equivalent to the animal, but new one!)

Specification
Dimensions 322 by 112 by 204 mm (HxWxD)
Weight 1.51 kg
Suction power 10 minutes of 38 airwatts or 6 minutes of 65 airwatts (constant)
Bin capacity 0.35 litres

New one has smaller bin capacity (and hence smaller!), Is about 20% lighter (1.8kg against 1.5kg) and the battery lasts longer at a similar suction power, or will last the same time at a higher suction power...............................................But well it is nearly double the price £80 against preorder price of £149.99 from Dyson.

Have been looking for one, was thinking should I wait or should I go for the deal!, thought I would take the time to do a bit of a writeup to help everyone.

For the record I do not own any of the two handheld units, so my review is based on the technicals only. But I do have a dyson (normal wheel/ball vacuum DC14 animal I think thats what the number is and I use it sometime:whistling:, the misses all the time and well it does the job well!)

Hope it helps!
