Why not just use a catcher to stop stuff going down and save polluting the planet with chemicals that take thousands of years to breakdown?

Good shout. Although sadly my pipes were already clogged (do catchers fit to bath plugs to stop long lady hair???) - I would urge others to take heed of the above advice. This stuff is good to have on standby tho ;)

Yeah just have a good shout at the current blockage and scare it away and then buy a catcher. Everyone knows shouting at blockages is better than using something designed for the job.

Always good to treat your pipes a good clean out.

Good tip for manually removing blockages that may save you a pound :whistling:

Try using the wire from one of the old style net curtains. Very strong and springy, goes round bends and the little loop at the end helps remove debris stuck to the pipes.

One quid is incredible value compared to what a plumber would charge to unblock a pipe.

Possible i suppose depending on how stubborn the blockage,
But i would have thought that the curtain wire would be too flimsy.

There was a programme on a while back, I think it was called Restaurants From Hell or something, and it told the story of a kid accidentally drinking some stuff like this that had been put in a lemonade bottle and left behind the bar for cleaning the pipes by the people that previously ran the place.

It was pretty nasty. It disolved everything it touched on the way down and to this day, after countless operations, he can't eat or drink anything by mouth for the rest of his life. He's lucky to be alive...sort of.

So best not to joke about how great the taste is just in case there's kids reading this eh.

I work with rivers and understand the damage this stuff can do. How it keeps its lisence I will never know! Dont use it...PLEASE.

To be honest i haven't found a blockage yet that a good old plungering with the plam of the hand hasn't solved, i tip all kinds of grease and food down the sink. Oh and I lived in a student house where everyone had long hair for 3 years, those were the tougher blockages, but i suppose if you want to save a bit of effort this will be worth it.
#24
What about using Cola or baking soda and vinegar. Pour some baking soda down and about a half a cup of white vinegar, it will push what ever is blocking it out. ?

I agree, I tried some of this once and it did little. Plunger saved the day in the end.

Well I beg to differ on this one. We recently ran out of fabric condtioner in our house, and bought some Easy 3 in 1 conditioner, stain remover and crease remover for a quid from the local shop. I was amazed when it actually did all three jobs when we just wanted a basic fabric conditioner. My shirts barely need ironing and not at all sometimes, and the stain remover was pretty good too, so I would definitely try other Easy products such as the drain unblocker.

Just remembered I've also tried the Easy leather cleaner for my sofa, and it works a treat - the price was a quid from our local pound shop.
