POSTED OVER A YEAR AGO AT A HIGHER PRICE, NOW REDUCED FURTHER SO POSTING IT AS A NEW DEAL

paypal rate was 1 GBP = 1.55 USD when I bought it earlier

GREAT REVIEWS

Some uses for those who don't know:

This adapter is very useful. I use it to take movies from my Camcorder and i can later convert it to mp4 and put it in my ipod!!! i can also turn my old VHS movies to DVD if i choose, i also use this to hook it up to my ps3 via the rca cables and i can record video and post on youtube!!!

use it for video/tv capture for my home theatre pc. I plugged this adapter to the cable decoder and the signal is recongnized by the pc. Grab easily the tv signal and convert it in .avi (or others, but I prefere .avi)

So be warned, maybe its faulty, but cant be sure:thinking:
Saying that have not had anyother problems buying from DX

You could attatch one of these to another video output eg. Sky, freeview
Then use Wndows media encoder to encode the video and stream the video on your home network, using Windows Media Player

Not sure how legal that would be though?

I bought Easycap from Dealextreme last year. Wasn't to hard to set up and the quality is really good for such a cheap product. The software was not the best you get with it. But I found a free software called AMCAP that works fine.
#6
good price for what it does

brought one on ebay for £4.48 delivered ;)

I also bought one of these from Dealextreme, Video worked no problem but no audio. It's a common problem on Vista but there is a work around using a phono to 3mm Jack and into your mic socket rather than use the phono on the easy cap.

Anyone know of any Mac software that works with these? I'm tempted by one of these to get the recordings off of my V+ box.

Noticed a few deals popping up recently that when the link is followed, are showing up in USD $.

Could this be made clearer in original title?

Im thinking of getting one of these as i have a video but need it on a dvd before it gets in worse shape, plus i wouldnt trust sending it off cos if it gets lost/damaged its the only one i have, would rather do it myself.
I read some reviews on amazon, loads of mixed stuff but i think quite a few people dont know how to use it as they state the instructions are pretty poor.
Ive had a look around, theres a scart to rca lead on ebay that can be switched from in/out,would that work with this, plugging the scart into the VCR and the red, yellow and white leads into the EasyCap?

I've got one of these and bearing in mind that I am an IT numpty; I managed to set it up ok.

However, I did find that the pictures and sound were not marrying up (70's Kung Fu films stylee). The longer the recording, the worse it got.

Works fine for about 15 mins of video at a time....

Hope this helps someone............?

I picked mine up for around a tenner from a UK shop, there wasn't really any point though as it's the same unit. If DX had done it cheaper at the time, I would have bought it from them instead.

I bought it for transferring stuff off my Sky+ box, I've not even got round to trying it yet. It's cheap enough to 'give it a go' though.

WARNING, there are 2 types are easycap and they look exactly the same. Only 1 of them records 60hz/ntsc. This is required to record xbox 360 unless you like black and white :-D

I have checked out the listing and it does say it supports ntsc but i have known companys to lie :whistling:

COLD!

The included drivers don't work. I had to google a LOT to find working drivers - and even then it works only in XP and VISTA. It definitely doesn't work in Windows 7

To get it working in XP or Vista, follow this :

http://blog.lucylou.info/post/40016775/getting-easycap-to-work-in-windows-xp

Worked for me.

Easycrap is made by a generic Chinese manufacturer. I bought Belkin Videobus and will use it.

Everything I have purchased from dealextreme in the past has been totally legit, however they also have, top right hand site of there homepage 100% money back guarantee, never had to use it myself

Bought one of these (EasyCap) off eBay for about £7 from a Chinese seller and found it very easy to set up and gave very good results on Windows XP. Good for converting VHS to AVI files. Looks same as product often in the back of newspapers for ~£40+.

Mine ended up in a drawer though, as (like many) I have a DVD/HDD recorder with SCART input which ended up a much simpler way of converting old VHS! Though Easycap is good to get them on the PC if you want to edit them...

Voted hot. Quite a good price but I guess quality wont be all that great.

Just bought one, for the price, it is worth a try.

If it's a DC60, it won't work with Mac OS X at all. If it's a DC60++ it will, but only using Videoglide. I bought one from an Ebay seller, which came with Videoglide (and a Ulead package for Windows). When I updated Videoglide to the latest version, it stopped working. I emailed their support, and was told that the serial that had been included with the dongle was a stolen one. I had to buy a new license for the software at about £15.

There are tons of fake Easycaps floating around, so watch out in case you end up with one that includes hooky software like I did. Once I bought the new Videoglide license, it was a breeze to use. It's composite only, but it does the job for capping old VHS tapes.

EDIT - the dongle pictures is black, and my DC60++ is white, so perhaps these are DC60s?

Why does your xbox output ntsc?

While the Xbox may be PAL, for some reason they describe it as 60 hz PAL, which to me is NTSC. For example, the back of Forza 3 says;

For use only with xbox 360 entertainment systems with 'PAL' designation and PAL TV's capable of displaying a 60 hz signal.

It's not all games (MW2 doesn't have the same text), but that's why jpercival77 correctly pointed out that a black and white picture is very likely if the capture device doesn't support 60hz.

Hope that helps. :)

I think that's quite a valid summary. You're swapping a bit of effort in getting it up and running, for a large drop in price. You could pay £50+ for the various plug and play options with good software packages and included capture software, or go for this which needs some work.

It's a bit like DIY furniture I suppose, you could go and get a ready built wardrobe for lots of money but have it working from day one. Or you could get a flat pack version for a much cheaper price, and have to put some effort into getting it working as a wardrobe.

Just to clear things up the Ulead Studio does work that comes with the lead. If your using Vista make sure you use Ulead as administrator by right clicking the desktop icon and then compatability and selecting run as administrator this will ensure that it picks up all the drivers otherwise you will have no sound. The driver is on the CD that comes with it. You can also use this to record PS3,XBOX 360, PS2 etc footage or to simply use laptop as a screen as it has a preview mode.

It also works for PAL and NTSC as the software allows you to change the region etc
