Hmm missed that! Oops would have been very interesting! Anyone know if there's an online link to the interview and / or someone who watched it willing to provide a brief summary? (Rep will be given LOL).

I remember the days of free listing days, 10p listing is hardly a great offer IMHO when I usually post auctions starting at 1p which gives a very low insertion fee anyway!

thanks for the pointer dino :)

10p listing days mean nothing to me as I mostly sell computer games and they cost 10p to list anyway but have a 9% FVF which is a bit of a p!$$take.

Also nice of ebay to stop me from using google payments instead of paypal, Ebay clearly do not believe in a bit of healthy competition.

Hopefully google payments will lead to google auctions.

Totally agree that the new video games payment structure is taking the mickey - I even had a nice phone call prior to the change to tell me they were cutting listing costs for video games - however they neglected to mention that they were upping the FVF to 9% at the same time - gggrrr.........

Will watch out for the Working Lunch discussion, which should be interesting. I imagine they will trot out the same excuses though, and finish with a slightly nicer worded 'like it or lump it' statement - as per usual........

I'm not sure there's any benefit to this anyway. Sure you get a little discount on listing but your item is competing against so many others on those days.

That's a bit of a sweeping statement - depends on loads of things: -

*If there's enough demand then it doesn't really matter how many other similar items are listed

*Depends on the item - if it's a rare item that you want to give a try with buy-it-now at a high price (without wasting the listing fee if it doesn't sell) then a 10p listing day is the time to do it!

etc.

I could go on but I'm supposed to be working :whistling:
#13
Yup - 10p listing day is definately the day to give a high priced BIN a whirl - if it doesn't sell you've only lost 10p (+ gallery fee etc)
#14
Thanks for the heads up dino :)
#15
while i use ebay its still a pile of $h!t in regards to a number of things and is just asking for a better auction site to come along ie. google

Will be interesting to watch but all ebay PR people do is spout the party line about...changes for the good of the ebay community, improve effectiveness, still a very competitive selling platform etc. They will NEVER admit their decisions are wrong. In fact most eBay reps Ive seen interviewed come across as conceited and arrogant.

The worse discussions are usally those where they are responding to fraud issues or other illegal activities occuring on eBay and they will always say the usual 'we take blah blah very seriously and investigate all reports blah blah. Anyone who has used the eBay reporting system regularly will know their monkeys do anything but take report seriously.

I used to sell quite a few dvds on ebay but their ridiculous 9% fee hike resulted in me having to raise my shipping and handling charges.

I don't bother using ebay any more.

OMG I didnt realise they upped the FVF, I list stuff for my DS & was pleased that the listing fee had gone down, didnt know they were now taking more than what we were saving with the totally OTT FVF. I cant believe it 9%!! Just checked my account & the bill for this month is extremely high!!
I have been selling on ebay for over 7 years, and agree that it has got terrible, so many sellers/buyers arent serious, the fees are mad! was so much nicer in the good ole days!
#18
I sold a dvd boxset recently and almost fell off my chair when I did the maths and realised with the listing fee, fvf and paypal fees they'd taken 15% off me!

Thanks for the post Dino, been waiting for one of these....seems like it's been a while...

Thanks for the useful post. Voted hot.

I'm actually a newbie to selling stuff on ebay, so wanted to know a few things before starting to sell, like apart from this 10p fee, what other fees should I (not) look forward to paying if I were to sell an item on ebay?

Also I hear paypal charges money for going through them (3.4% + £0.20) as well as a limit to the number of items you can sell using ebay+paypal before you would need to upgrade your paypal account! Is this true? If so can someone comment on how it works please?
#20
I sold 3 thing on ebay this month and got charged £8 odd :(

Ebay fees are Listing Fee and Final Value fee:-
http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/fees.html

You are correct regards to Paypal fees if you have a Premier or Business Paypal Account.
The Spend/Receive limit is now £1,000 until you have verified your Paypal account.. That's £1,000 in total.

If you are thinking of selling on ebay, please read the ebay tips in my signature.

edit,
This is not my ebay ID, 'noobies' may find this post helpful, it's a few years old but it still works :)

edit again,
I know ebay links ain't allowed on here, but the ID is no longer registered on ebay.
Remove it by all means.

So after I verify my paypal account all is well and I can use it without any limits?

oh are there different rates for normal accounts? Because I've just got a normal account which I used to buy a few things off ebay.

Is it best to go through paypal for selling stuff or is there a better way to get payments?
#23
Roll on Google Auction Site!
#24
pinoproxy,
Once you have Verified your Paypal accounts you will have NO spend/receive limit. You can spend as much as you have. There is another limit but I think it's at the £5,000 or £10,000 mark, this is to do with the money laundering law. It's pretty much the same as getting verified. I did that years ago so I'll have to check up on it if anybody needs more info.

You can use the same ebay account for buying and selling. Once you click on 'sell' you are guided through what you need to do.

Ebayers are 'brainwashed' into using Paypal, but offer as many payment options as you can, such as BACS  Postal Orders  Cheques :) Nochex :giggle: and Cash on Collection

sadly paypal is a better option.... as lately most sellers r faced with bounced cheques, or waiting week and week to receive cheques/post orders etc...... at least with paypal the payment is instant.

however, there are many paypal scams! ive just stopped using ebay due to amount of fraudsters..... first the nigeria scam......now the chineese scam (DEAR FRIEND......and all that rubbish) what next the russian mafia!

Thank you both for your advice, I'll give it a go and see if I can stay clear of all the pitfalls. Cheers

ranging from £5 up to £100

Are you aware that Ebay recently jacked up the final value fee on all DVDs and Video games to 9% but lowered the listing fees.

That's why they cost only 10p to list but when they sell ebay will be laughing all the way to the bank.

so why are they having a 10p listing day for buy it now if it's 10p all the time??

And its stuff i want rid of anyway so its money in my pocket
#39
SevenOfDCup
It's only 10p for specific items, items like dvds now have an increased FVF.

The 10p listing day is pointless for people who sell dvds.

cheers for clearing that up
