For the entire day of Thursday 7th September 2006 (local UK time), sellers listing items using Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now or Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) formats in an eligible category, will pay a reduced 5 pence (£0.05) Insertion Fee per item listed. Please refer to "What's Excluded?" for more details.

Thursday 7 September 2006 from 00:00:01 BST until 23:59:59 BST (promotion period).

Only items listed in British Pounds Sterling on eBay.co.uk using Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now and Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) formats will qualify for the promotion.
Any item previously scheduled to go live on Thursday 7th September will qualify for the promotion.
If you re-list an item on Thursday 7th September that had previously closed without a successful sale, the re-list will qualify for the promotion. If the re-listed item sells and is eligible under the eBay re-list policy, eBay will refund the Insertion Fee at the promotional price of 5 pence.

Making a note of this now, thanks to OP.

I think you can go through setting up some listings now and save them before they are published, then activate them on Thursday and still qualify for the deal.

Thats what i do...schedule all my listings to start on Thursday. However, unless you subscribe to Selling Manager Pro, this will cost you 6p per listing to schedule them (though you could set them all up in Turbo Lister ready to go on the day for free).

As a seller on eBay, cheap listing days are a mixed blessing. Sure I can save a bit listing stuff, and can try and clear some older stock too, however it floods eBay with so many listings. You can see the difference in speed when its heavy under the weight of so many listings. Also, so much 'rubbish' appears on there that buyers can find it hard to locate the stuff you are selling.

eBay said a few months back that cheap listing days would become more targetted. However, this one doesnt look targetted at all...maybe a hint of desperation because of falling buyer numbers. Im sure they make a packet still on final value fees and paypal fees on the cheaper listings. Perhaps if they reduced their listing fees permanently they may actually see an increase in revenue overall!

yeah it's a mixed bag. idea if you sell items that are a bit unique and uncommon. but if you sell anything thats popular on ebay you'll find your item gets lost soon after it's listed and wont get viewed much until its nearly ended. i never do 10 day auctions on these cheap listing days.
#15
Thanks OP time to get rid of some classic trash.
#16
Thanks for this. Been meaning to have a clear out for ages!
#17
Cheers for this one, time to clear out again.

Agreed about the paypal and ebay fees

I sold an mp3 player for £170 and with listing fee, ebays final listing cut and paypals cut it took about £15 off it. Not best pleased with that considering it's all the same company

Don't forget everybody

I've heard there are paypal codes, which give you a percentage off an item you are buying. Does anyone know anything about these codes?
#21
Plus does the 5p listing apply to Reserve Price auctions as well?

#21 & #22,

Only items listed in British Pounds Sterling on eBay.co.uk using Auction-style, Auction-with-Buy It Now and Buy It Now Only (Fixed Price) formats will qualify for the promotion.

Paypal codes will only work if you received one. They are tied to the email address they have been sent to.

Im about £100 (so far) up from this set of listings, i thank you dinosteveus. I missed the last 6 months of 5p days.

Its a shame that for many people, cheap listing days are the only way they can make selling on eBay pay. Perhaps eBay should take note. If we can afford to list, and items sell then they make more money through final value fees and paypal fees.

This cheap listing day was said, by eBay themselves, to have brought an additional 1 million listings onto the site....surely there must be a message to eBay there?
