Yep, I absolutely hate eBay too as they shafted a friend of mine and I feel sad for the buyers and mainly sellers as they are unfairly tightening the noose around their necks. PooPal is even worse I heard, very arrogant and above the law with a god complex. Some people still like eBay but everyone hates PooPal. Is that true?
That reminds me of the other one where some people like the police but everyone hates traffic wardens.

i dont see why everyone goes on about ebay really yes its dearer then it used to be and yes paypal take their cut and yes rules are annoying and yes lots on there trying to scam you but i make a good living selling on ebay and ebay is cheaper then having a proper shop and gets you more traffic also cheaper then real auction houses

saying that i really would like them to lower their fees:-D

Never tried gumtree, heard number of horror stories. But I do agree that eBay are rip-off merchants focused on the big business players these days.

I don't list auctions any more. Free listing is a trap. I have been bitten by this last time. I listed a tv starting £100 for free. Was very happy to save few extra pennies. It was sold for £150. I was hit with £15 fees instead of £5 if it was listed with fixed price. day light robbery. NEVER AGAIN

Err, I'm missing something here.

You listed at £100, so if no one was really interested, you could have ended up with one buyer getting it for the listing price - £100 (less £5 PP fees)

Instead, you sold it for £150 less £15 fees = £135

Um, doesn't that make you over £35 better off?

Can someone please clarify to me what these 'free listing weekends' actually mean.

The few things I have sold recently on Ebay have incurred no listing fee anyway, if the start price is 99p and there is only one photo, so what extra are they offering here? Is it that I can set a higher starting price without incurring a fee, is that it?

Thanks.

Yes, that's the way it normally works. Good if you're not sure something will sell, but you don't want to let it go for 99p.

Thanks. With cuts to tax credits on the horizon, now is the time to sell your junk before everyone starts tightening their belts.

The listing fees are only pennies anyway....it's the final value fees that take the shine off the price things sell for.

Hate poopal , sold a gift card of 150 and buyer made a claim i had postal signature as proof that i sent it to right address and he signed for it , they still took my !150 and said he is protected by cradit card company. So pooPal's Legal people did't have brain to refuse any claim a cradit card company does.
and Ebay is shows real greed face when sends you bill every month. What right ebay has to get VAT from us . how we know if they pass on to Government. hate both of them. never using them again.

As long as it's here, good that people take the trouble rather than keep it to themselves.

Ebay used to be great but have got far too greedy along with paypal
#23
Oh for gods sake, why are these free listing weekends days before I go to sell stuff.

A word to the wise, its often better to pay for listing becuase more people list and so there is often less interest in your items as a result.
#24
they cancelled a listing claiming it was a copy when i bought new from a shop turned out it was so new as a power seller hadnt listed it yet it wasnt in there database then when someone sent me a copy i have to pay to return the item for a refund
#25
Just be aware fee's will be around 9.5 /10% if you sell your item, then 3.25% + 20p from paypal.
In other words an item sells for £10 you get £8.55 approx.
#26
Although ebay are expensive, and they own the equally expensive Paypal, there is no other website with the same amount of people looking to buy which does help force the prices up.

Still a good deal even though the initial fees are cheap, the real hit is the final fees charged.

I'm not a massive fan of eBay because of their buyer biased rules and stupid ratings system but calling them 'greedy' because of the fees just makes me think that it's actually their accusers that are the greedy ones. You don't have to use eBay, there's freeads, other auction sites, local auctions, car boot sale etc but of course you won't use the alternatives because you know ebay will still make you the most money for your tat. Stop whinging.
#28
ebay and paypal becomes terrible. but this is no GOOD alternative choice in UK. gumtree is not safe enough.

I know in some countries, ebay has very small market because the competitors provide the same or even better services but don't need pay any fee.
#29
is it also free for listing a car for sale as a classified

Yes, why exactly do you think there's going to be a 'Tory Nightmare'. It's Labour that have created the nightmare that we've had to endure

It's been owned by eBay since 2005 anyway!

You'd think they'd have cleaned it up a bit, it's loaded with scammers and tacky "adult personals"

Some political debate on HUKD!! Is there an election or something coming?!?! Lol:-D

The fees are high but still cheaper/comparable to an old style 'auction house'.
#38
Don't forget that if you buy things on eBay through quidco you earn 40% cashback on the sellers fees.
#39
