Bush, as sold in refurb form for around £58 via Microdirect.
Argos collect @ £79 for non-refurb.
Seems v cheap @ £47.56 delivered if non-refurb via ebuyer.

plus £4.79 postage

looks the same as the one we have that has lost the ability to pick up any bbc channels since the digital switchover.

Looks just like the DigiHome 80Gb one I bought from ebuyer 6 month ago. I paid the same price. It's been perfect, very pleased with it. Hot and reccomended.

surely it's better to wait a short time for a Freeview HD version? They are meant to be out before the world cup.

Toshiba announced this week they would be launching theirs in June, but at £349 it's a bit prohibitive for most.

For those on a budget this looks a good idea. but i will be looking to get a freesat recorder hopefully before the world cup, hoping they fall in price a bit though.

So true.

Want to replace my 5 year old Humax 8000T, although it will be sad to see it go.

Good find.

Can you rewind live TV? The description says you can 'pause live TV', but doesn't mention rewinding, and I've heard that some recorders only let you pause and not rewind (which would be a showstopper for me).

Thanks :)

Can i connect it to my free to air receiever and record the fta channels or its just record the freeview channels ?:?

Hi guys,

Does anyone know if this would work in Spain?

My idea is this... my parents have a sat reciever, would it be able to plug into the scart of this and record?

If not, would the EPG guide on this pick up the Spanish freeview channels?

I have asked both manufactures and a tech dude in Comet and neither have given a definitive answer.

I was told they think yes is could, but they can't be certain.

Thought i'd try the proper experts on HDUK

This is a VESTEL unit. I've just tested my 80gb Vestel PVR and I can rewind and skip backwards and forwards when I've paused live TV.

I don't normally use the 'pause live TV' function though. Instead, I prefer to hit the instant record button; you can still watch the recording while it's happenning AND it remains on your hard disk until you delete it.

Hope that helps

Good find shame it hasn`t got HDMI as scart on a HDTV Looks horrible

You need to retune it!

Probably simple enough if you go to the menu and have a look around.

You can't play back what you haven't recorded! If you pause or record you can go backwards and forwards from that point.
#25
Hi, I just placed my order, thanks.

Spend over £50 and get free delivery, I added a usb mouse for a tenner.

Take a look at the Which magazine for specs http://www.which.co.uk/reviews/pvrs/alba-aldtr160/specifications

Hope this helps,

I think they mean the box automatically records whatever you are watching, so you can then rewind it back to whenever you started watching the channel. I've got a feeling my top-up tv box does that - but if not I've definitely seen it on one box at least.

As to the person saying wait for a Freeview HD recorder, yes that would be nice, but its bound to be a couple of hundred pounds more expensive.
#27
Heat/rep added, anyone else who can find a better deal for a brand new recorder power to you. Bargain!!!
Thanks and wil report back on how it is next Mon/Tues when it's delivered :)

There's probably something wrong if there's a noticeable difference between 576i over HDMI and 576i over RGBS video. Check the box is set to output RGB (rather than composite or s-video) and the SCART socket on the TV can accept RGB (sometimes, especially on cheaper sets, only the first socket will accept RGB).
Of course, it could be that the television has a poor quality scaler (or other video processor, e.g. de-interlacer) -- but those in the cheaper set-top boxes are unlikely to be better.
Anyway: Freeview is a low quality, and often low definition, platform. I would be very surprised if someone could genuinely discern a difference between a Freeview channel over HDMI and the same channel over RGB.

Yeah, my ancient Humax does that. It's actually very handy
Surprised how many boxes don't offer this basic functionality.

Does anyone know if it does PIP?
#31
Very tempted for the bedroom as the amount of times I've wanted to rewind since Sky+ is getting silly!

Yes it does have PIP.
I think all the Vestel PVRs with twin tuners have PIP

Surely this is at least as good...

I appreciate it's a refurb but mine came with a 12 month guarantee in the box (used in the spare room) but for £40 (inc P&P) the interface and features are more than adequate.

I expect grief for posting this given peoples previous experiences with Thomson, but for the price it is a decent alternative.

People seem to forget that pvr's are temperamental equipment, my Humax crashes occasionally.

It has over a hundred 1-star reviews out of 183 lol. There must be something seriously wrong with it.

Avoid this if you live in the North-West of England (Granada Region) The Vestel chips have been very flakey since the Digital Switch Over.

You can read about the problems (jumping, stuttering) here http://pvrbugs.futaura.co.uk/view.php?id=167 (you have to create an account to view them)
#36
I think you will find that these are refurbished units.

I bought one similar to this from Ebuyer for the same price around 3 months ago and it was refurbished although they omitted this online. It has actually worked really well, so no complaints althought it was a TVONICS and not a Vestel.

So just be prepared to receive a refurbished unit!

You have been warned.

Also mine didn't have series link on it which turns out to be more annoying than you'd think.
#37
Have some heat, I just ordered one of these as I have cancelled sky hd, not expecting too much but as long as the missus can record her soaps, I can still watch the live HD footy, (as long as it is live) and no £40 p/m to pay to Mr Murdoch`s cronies ,

you cannot rewind, it will pause but not rewind.

Der, i'm not stupid, would have to be deaf blind and stupid to not have retuned it, what with all the adds that were on tv prior to the digital switchover not to mention all the placards and billboards in town, it has been retuned several times, it will not pick up any bbc channels.

Probably simple enough if you go to the menu and have a look around.

it's incredibly simple but doesn't help in the slightest.
#39
Anyone know how much for it will cost to get one that you can get a rewind on?
#40
Can anyone tell me how noisy it is, both on and in standby?

I bought a Thompson topup tv refurb from tesco and its fan is on constantly even in standby.
