I have one already and use it all day for streaming movies, music, home security and backing up photos (remotely!). works great with plex server and teamviewer for headless remote operation. this version comes with 4gb of ram (mine only had 2gb last year), not sure if there is a hard drive on this one though.

Ive said it on a few other of these posts before, but ill say it again. ooo look, the retailers after artificially inflated the price of these units to grossly increase profit when the cashback are realising there is no further cashback and they are stuck with them. Personally, id wait until they are cashback prices before doing the retailers a favor and buying them.

Maybe almost worth it with 4 GBytes of ram, it is usually with two, but no hard drive (though it is a small one)
The normal discounted price for these microsevers is about £100, so voted cold.
A pointless exercise by Ebuyer or Hp

yep thats what i was getting at, the retailers pushed up their prices to take advantage of the cashback, and now they have machines they cant shift, and think they have done us a favour by putting them down to what should have been their normal price.

Good price for what it is. I think it was only the UK that actually had the cash back offer.

I do not think they have had cash back for a good 6 months now.

hence why all of a sudden the retailers have began to drop their prices back, they probably have been told their will be no further cashback deals on this generation. IMHO its no deal, its just the going rate. Now if the newest gen had cashback on them, id be jumping at that ;)

Going rate at the moment is around £130 + delivery. DABS are probably the best inclusive price, £132.50 at the moment.

I don't necessarily think its the likes of ebuyer etc pushing the price up but rather the cost further up the line. E.g. earlier in the year some stock was UK sourced but ineligible for cash back as they had been purchased via a different (cheaper) uk channel. The seller in question was able to buy cash back eligible stock from the distributor but only if they paid more for it which meant they couldnt provide it to the end user at the same price.

As far as media servers go, there's a plethera of them about now The ones which are preconfigured as dedicated media servers, with two or four disks are usually cheaper and of course easier to configure.
How many media servers do people want? I would think maybe only one per household.
Then you have the problem of 'finding' stuff to put on it. Even if you are only going to fill it with copies of your dvds or bluerays, it takes a very long time. Can most people be bothered to do that? Once most people realise that, I don't think they'll bother. And certainly see no reason to upgrade to a better system.
